"My partner and I wanted to experience a night in the middle of the mountains during winter preferably with meals and outdoor onsen included at a reasonable price. My partner had never seen snow before, and although we spent the night prior in Takayama where it was snowing - travelling 2.5hrs (usually 1.5hrs but we were commuting in heavy snow!) to Nakaodaira we both agree was definitely worth it if you are wanting to see the countryside and have a true authentic Japanese experience. "Stayed at this Ryokan May of 2019. Great location if you want to explore the apps a bit. You are less than 15 min from shinhotaka ropeway which I highly recommend. Also close to kamikoche which is also supposed to be gorgeous. This was my first time in a Ryokan so I don’t have much to compare to. The place is old but I believe most ryokan are.
