Depending on where you're coming from, your flight to Irons could be completely stress-free or it could drag on forever. We've put together some useful tips that will help you start your next big adventure on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- First and foremost, put in your passport, official ID, wallet and vital medications. Next, you'll want some extra in-flight entertainment to while away the time. A thrilling novel and a tablet filled with your favourite movies are always good options. If you plan to catch a few z's, a comfy neck pillow and some earplugs will also be useful. Finally, make room for a toothbrush and some deodorant so you'll arrive at your destination looking fresh and raring to go.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of prohibited items can differ between airlines, the general rule of thumb is avoid carrying anything flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes things like tools, metal cutlery, fireworks and fuel. Sporting equipment like baseball bats, and items that could harm passengers, such as swords and guns, can't come on board with you either.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your goal here is to feel as comfortable as you can. Don layers of natural-fibre clothing and bring a pullover in case it gets cold in the cabin. Pick a pair of flat, slightly roomy shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy boots in your main luggage.
- Most travellers are aware of DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of sitting. There's lots you can do to lower your risk. Don a pair of compression tights or socks, drink plenty of water and get your legs and feet moving. Do a lap or two of the cabin or perform exercises in your seat.
