If you're poorly prepared, air travel can be a real challenge. But there's no need to hit the panic button just yet. Follow these useful tips for a pain-free start to your time in Oakland. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane trip can be a pleasure if you take the right things. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a fresh set of clothes and a few magazines. Secondly, find room in your carry-on bag for your electronic devices, chargers, any vital medications and maybe a cosy neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to bring your passport, travel documents and some money.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Check carefully that you don't have sharp objects (like a pocket knife) lurking in one of the zippers of your hand luggage. Other restricted items include flammable or explosive products, such as fuel and matches, and liquids and gels in containers with a volume of more than 3null4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- Your goal here is to make yourself as comfortable as you can. Don layers of breathable clothing and remember to pack a sweater just in case you get cold. Go for a pair of roomy, flat shoes as your feet may swell a little during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy boots in your checked baggage.
- The serious condition known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis) can pose a risk on long-distance flights. It results from blood clots forming due to poor circulation. Walking up and down the aisle and doing leg and foot exercises in your seat helps to prevent this developing. Wearing a high-quality pair of compression tights or socks can also help.
