The Old Poets Corner

10/10 Excellent

"The Old Poets Corner is a lovely pub in a perfect location. Lots of real ales on tap, walking trails on the doorstep and a lovely village to explore. Lovely cafe (that doubles as a post office) 5 mins round the corner. 2 other pubs on the doorstep. Views are amazing."

"The room was fine, not exceptional, for me, as I was only staying for 6 nights. I hadn't booked breakfast as it was only offered on a Sunday, but there is a "Sandwich Stop" attached to the hotel in the car park. Parking was adequate, but trying to exit onto the busy main road was a nightmare, as the hedges were so overgrown and hadn't been trimmed, so it was impossible to see traffic approaching from both directions. I arrived about 4.10 p.m., but there was no one on Reception, and at first I couldn't access the hotel at all as the main door was locked. However, someone appeared from the private flat above after a few minutes. During the rest of my stay, there was no one on Reception, so the hotel felt a little impersonal. I needed more tea bags, toilet roll and another towel, and had to call the landline to have these put in my room. I also stated whilst calling that there was NO hot water in my room on the washbasin, and although the first shower I had was warm, after this the shower was never warm or hot, but freezing cold. I know that someone had checked this, but still no hot water came through either the washbasin or shower at all. I feel that this is a basic commodity, and is not acceptable these days. However, I realise I had booked the hotel at a reasonable rate, but still I would have expected hot water. On checking out, again no one was around, and I left the keys in the glass "goblet" I had been told about."
