Good Cotswolds tour base

Ideal location for touring Cotswolds and other spots, with a room above a charming pub and plenty of restaurants in town. Parking nearby was cheap and convenient enough. If you don't mind occasional loud chatter outside your window after pubs close, you'll like it.

Okay. Pros: The staff were lovely, location is perfect, towels were very nice, mattress was super comfy, residents entrance separate to pub, easy check in and out. Price was also reasonable Cons: the cleanliness really let it down, room was not hoovered well at all, shower tray overflowed, very squeaky metal bed frame, the cups etc. In the room werent very clean (didn't use them in the end). No on site parking (free parking on street about 10 min walk away). All in all, a 6/10 for us.

City centre pub with rooms.

It was fine. A bit dated but perfectly satisfactory. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was minute and the shower cubicle had limescale and watermarks which looked unappealing, although it was clean. There did not seem to be any option to have breakfast at the property but luckily there were many cafés and coffee shops nearby. The location was very central but there is no on site parking. We parked in a nearby pay and display.

Overall very clean and staff super! The only thing were the bath tub not in the best shape and window in the bathroom broken so we couldn’t use the vent because of glass broken, not safe.

The best thing about this property is the location, which is convenient for the centre of town and the people in the bar below who were very nice and friendly. Unfortunately there were many downsides to the room that I booked, apart from it being very small, upon arrival I had to report that the bin in the room had not been emptied and was plainly full of rubbish, which made me nervous about how well the rest of. The room had been cleaned. Other downsides to this room were: 1). Very cold on arrival as the window had been left open with no heating on. 2). Carpet looks horrible and was dirty around the edges. 3). Venetian blinds obviously very old with frayed and missing ends to the controls. 4). The complimentary shower gel was less than half full and had obviously not been changed since the last occupant. 5). There is nowhere to hang a towel in the bathroom. 6). There is no shaver socket in the bathroom and no other means of charging provided. 7). There are no clothes hanging or shelves provided in the room; had to resort to placing them on the window sill. 8). The sink is tiny and the tap lever too close to the tiled wall when turned to cold. 9). The shower curtain is too short for the shower, meaning the floor gets soaked when taking a shower. 10). The shower head has many blocked spray outlets. 11). Either side of the outside of the shower tray looks filthy and has a lot of black mold. All-in-all the place is very run down and tired.

Cozy Charming Hotel Centre of Town

This is a delightful hotel where the location is set in a central and historic part of Cirencester. The hotel has a good vibe to it. The lunch menus are very tasty and fresh. I went for a light lunch, carrot/cumin soup with the local house bread which was a winner. Staff and hotel managers are very courteous and ready to help if needed. As for the rooms I think they are very comforting and cosy and perfect for short stays or a weekend. Recommended. Syed

Experience could be so much better

My comments are meant to be constructive! On arrival (5.55pm), the place seemed empty - apart from two dogs inside, who announced my presence to the chap who was inside. The room was clean, bed was comfy-enough. No hand-soap, or shower gel, but there was shampoo. I had been directed to the tea/coffee items in the wardrobe, but I didn't use the kettle until later - when I discovered (having tipped the existing water away) that the kettle can't be filled from the washbasin (kettle will not fit under the tap). In the wardrobe was a bottle, which I then used to transfer water to the kettle, but this then creates a pool of water on the shower room floor. The pub wasn't open in the evening (Monday), so no food (nothing on the website). I went for a walk and found a restaurant, but would have preferred to eat 'In-House'. It didn't seem to be open in the morning, either? There's a 'key-drop box' at the bottom of the stairs. Breakfast wasn't mentioned - even though their website says, "Guests staying at the pub tell us our breakfasts are second to none". To be fair; I didn't ask - by this point I'd already expected to be disappointed. My summary would be this - communication/explanation/information in the room would be useful. Just an A4 sheet that most hotels provide with 'basic information'. I don't think I saw fire evacuation details, either? Some simple changes could encourage me to stay again.

The accommodation is ideally placed in the centre of town within easy access to all amenities. Our room was ideal for us, if a little noisy in the early mornings with deliveries outside in the street. Also, a curtain would have been nice to make the room darker. I was surprised the breakfast was not available at the accommodation. The room was a little "tired." the window blinds were broken and the bottom of the bath. These are minor points, however, we enjoyed our stay and I would stay there again. The staff are great and very helpfull.

Very Average

We had a very small room for 2 people which was not great.. No bed side table by bed so phone wallet etc on floor. Coffee and tea in wardrobe (odd). No curtains ... only venetian blinds so light pours in from 4am in mid June. Toilet / shower tiny and aweful shower. Decor appears to be cheap pictures from charity shop. Just needs owners to stay in room and experience what a night is like. Great location ... so potential is great.

In the middle of Cirencester

Okay to start with the location is great for enjoying Cirencester, the family room we had was spacious with a separate adjoining room for the double bed, it doesn't have a car park but the car parking nearby is free after 3pm. If you are a light sleeper be warned the church, which is just down the road, chimes every 15 minutes and rings the bell for each hour on the hour which is quite loud in the night. The pub itself looked really good but unfortunately when we stayed they didn't do breakfast and ran out of food at 4pm so we didn't get to eat there, they also stopped serving drinks at 7pm which was a shame but this was during Covid so I guess they were trying to save money.

There was an unpleasant smell in the communal areas, the room was okay although the kettle did not work which was not great. Overall it was a pleasant experience as Cirencester was a beautiful place and the hotel was close to walk to attractions

We stayed in a family room Cherwell. I thought that the twin beds should have been in the smaller room, and the double in the bigger room with the tv and en-suite. Other than that no complaints the bar food was lovely. Kids enjoyed the old fashioned sweet shop next door!

The location is great and the staff friendly, but the room could use some work. I stayed on room 2. The door lock needs looking at as it sticks and is not easy to lock and unlock. I couldn't find the remote control for the tv anywhere in the room and eventually found it under the bed. The sash windows are old and don't fit properly and rattle loudly in the wind. I eventually worled our the slamming noise was coming from the windows and used some tissue to try to stop the noise. It wasnt perfect but was better than before and allowed me to get some sleep. I also thought that the room was expensive and not worth the cost. I won't be staying at the Golden Cross again.
