"We appreciated the ground floor room with outside access while traveling with our dog.
The hotel is a bit dated but has amazing common spaces with unique architectural details. The pool and sauna were very clean and provided a perfect break after a long day driving.
We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and both our meals were excellent and fairly priced.
It was only unfortunate that other guests were not respectful and played loud thumping music late into the night.

"This is a cute boutique hotel. My spouse and myself used to work for the US Court System, so we just had to stay here. That being said, it is very difficult and cumbersome to get your luggage into the hotel - there is no ramp or elevator into the building. There are only stairs into the property - definitely not for special needs people. There are also basically no amenities, there is a gym (which we did not use) and a drink vending machine, that is it besides breakfast. I can understand this is a historic building, but you could have a small bar or at the very least a concession area to buy drinks/snacks.
Parking is convenient and free, just need to get your parking pass.
We stayed before summer, so there were not very many restaurants/bars in the area open. I expected more of a variety being so close to Lake Superior. I would recommend this hotel for one or two night stay at most."
"The breakfast menu was fresh. We found the room extremely small for the price we paid. The heater in the room was very loud making it difficult to sleep. The staff were very friendly."
"Room a bit smelly! Had to sleep with the window opened.
Breakfast is quite controlled. Front desk will issue a voucher early in the morning and there 1-2 guys custodian who enters the room. No eggs, but everything else was there. Good oatmeal!"
"We stayed here late at night while passing through and booked 3 rooms for our group. All we needed was a decent place to sleep before continuing our drive in the morning, but unfortunately the experience was very disappointing.
As soon as we opened the room door, we noticed the suite door did not close properly. There were visible gaps around the door and the deadbolt would not latch securely. The room also had a smoky, musty smell upon entering, although it appeared clean at first glance.
Once we checked the beds, both had white sheets with noticeable yellow stains. We checked all 3 rooms and found similar issues in each one. Because of this, most of us slept fully clothed on top of the blankets and didn’t get much rest.
From the bed you could see directly into the bathroom, where the towels also had dark stains on them. The bathroom faucet was loose and not properly secured to the sink, and the bathroom door would not lock. One member of our group was so uncomfortable that they left in the middle of the night.
The kids managed to sleep okay, but the adults had a very difficult time feeling comfortable or relaxed.
In the morning, there was no checkout drop box available for keys, and several guests had simply left their keys hanging on the office door.
Overall, this motel is extremely overpriced for the condition of the rooms. In our opinion, it would be more reasonably priced around $50–$80 per night unless major upkeep and maintenance improvements are made. "
