Established as a guard of the Santa Fe Trail from 1851-1891, the ruins of Fort Union provide a quiet space for exploration and reflection very approachable from I-25. It's worth the side trip.
Ruins of the old frontier jail at Ft. Union. Truly in the middle of nowhere...
The wagon ruts of the Santa Fe Trail can still be seen here at Ft. Union Monument. It is worth a visit. Tough history.
