To be avoided
The web site does not reflect the actual place. The car park is full of caravans, motor homes and big white vans all occupying must needed parking spaces. This area resembled a scrape yard. The inside looked like an over stocked untidy antique shop. Totally not what we expected so we found other accommodation. The owners were not prepared to reimburse any of the £220 we paid.

Peaceful location, excellent breakfast and lunch. There were a few bumps in the night but put that down to age of the hotel. Would stay again

Lovely place to stay
We loved it at hampsfell house. Its about a 10 min walk from town. Downhill there, uphill back. Lovely well presetned gardens to explore. Great atmosphere and very comfy. All the staff were really friendly and we had a big fry up every morning, perfect! Dinner was also lovely. Wpupd definitely recommend.

Wish we found this place sooner!
Extremely friendly. Comfortable and spotlessly clean room. Lots of choice on the breakfast menu and it tasted great! Gem of a find and will definitely stay again.

A fabulous Hotel
A fabulous hotel beautifully situated in its own grounds and within walking distance to the town. The restaurant is excellent and we ate there the two nights of the stay and loved it both nights. We are now thinking of visiting again in the summer and will definitely use Hampsfell House Hotel

Weekend away
Beautiful setting in glorious gardens. Outside seating on various levels to enjoy a glass or two. Very friendly hosts with their lovely rescue dogs. Our accommodation was excellent and quiet. Our evening meal was really good and value for money. Breakfast was all you would need to set you up for the day. This hotel is a great base for touring the area and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.

Average stay but the food which was excellent.
Location was a little difficult to find. Room ok nothing special but clean if a little dated. Food was excellent but we found the people not over friendly. Courteous enough and efficient but we felt we were an intrusion and any comments or request we felt were treated as if they were a criticism.

Golden Wedding.
My Husband and myself stayed at Hampsfell House Hotel from 11/07/19 until 15/07/19. We celebrated our Golden Wedding on Friday 12th. We had a wonderful time and would certainly go back to stay there again. The Hotel looks exactly as it does in all the photographs, the food was superb, everybody we met at the Hotel were very friendly.

Excellent location away from traffic and close to woods and fells. Furnished with antiques and quirky art.beautiful kept garden. Family run. Home cooked food-loved the retro butter curls.

Charming old home in a beautiful wooded setting surrounded by gorgeous gardens.
Room was authentic for age of home although somewhat small. We were in the twin beds room. Mattresses were somewhat softer than we are used to. Dinner was excellent and service by Matthew was delightful.

Lovely Hotel
Arrived early afternoon, room was ready, helpful staff. Asked if we wanted to book Dinner however we had made other arrangements. We picked this hotel as we were going to a wedding at a nearby hotel The Grange the next day. Breakfast was lovely, cereal juice tea or coffee and a choice of breakfast quite a few to choose from and toast, a good start to the day.The only drawback was the hill up to the Hotel, there were only two street lamps and it was very dark parking was not a problem. We did manage to walk down the hill in the evening but would not recommend it as there are a few potholes. Overall I would definately recommend and would return

A wonderful relaxing couple of nights surrounded by lovely antiques ,in a quiet environment. Even though I need a stick to aid walking & there were several steps to negotiate, the staff were extremely helpful ,all I had to do was ask !! This hotel is a complete change from so many present day modern, noisy ,hectic hotels A big effort has been made to modernise essential areas for convenience of guests. The food is absolutely superb,complements to the Chef.

Enjoyable stay
Quaint hotel with ample parking and friendly staff, didn’t eat at night but the breakfast was very good. Struggled with internet in room and mobile signal but knew that before booking so it’s not a complaint. Seemed very popular with walkers and dog lovers. Well worth staying.

This was our first visit and we were very impressed with the friendly service, excellent food and relaxed atmosphere. The hotel was full of character located on a hillside in beautiful landscaped gardens.

What a fantastic find. We spent two relaxing days at Hampsfell House. Lovely setting and a clean spacious room with a very comfortable bed and large bathroom. The restaurant and bar serves beautiful meals. Breakfast was fabulous. We will return.

quiet location in lovely grounds
Homely small hotel with character, adequate free parking, 15 minute walk from the town center. Clean, functional and pleasant room, some maintenance issues around windows, ours had a lovely view of the gardens and the bay. Very quiet location for a good nights sleep but woken early by daylight streaming in through closed curtains . We didn't use the restaurant but noticed the specials on Friday and Saturday evening were £12 including sweet,and the restaurant was almost full Friday evening. Proprietors polite and accommodating but I would not say warm. Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked, good selection of fresh fruit and cereals. Because we only found one average pub within walking distance we used the hotel bar which had a limited selection of beers as you might expect in a small hotel, comfortable seating but too quiet for us in the evening. On the whole we enjoyed our stay and would stay again and recommend to friends.

Quiet, a bit out of the way hotel.
First impression was not good - entrance area a bit dingy and musty but our room was clean and comfortable. Evening meal was exceptional and would highly recommend. Breakfast was satisfactory. Staff at mealtimes were really nice, helpful and made you feel welcome.

Wonderful retreat
Charming location up the hill above Grange, Well appointed small hotel with lots of antiques. Gorgeous setting with beautiful gardens and wonderful terrace for snacks and drinks . Breakfast was excellent and served the most unctious fried bread - superb. Would go back for the fried bread alone ! Only v.minor negative was 1 pillow was hard and lumpy but only there 1 night, I'm sure they would have sorted that had I been staying longer.

A quiet hotel set inn a beautiful garden.
We thought that hotels like this had been eliminated but we were wrong. A lovely old house in a secluded setting, antique furnishings, nice old china and walls full of pictures. The food was excellent and the drinks sensibly priced. The gardens are lush and ideal for a quiet drink in the sun or just reading a book. Ample car parking, pleasant staff, I wish that some of the big boys in the game would take a look at doing this kind of thing instead of all the stainless steel and ceramic tiles 'easy clean' noisy, clattering, establishments which are the norm these days.
