"On arrival, we were shown to the "penthouse", a twin room on the third floor. The large bedroom light worked, but none of the smaller, bedside lights worked, so not great at night - totally or all nothing. "Beautiful place and exceptional customer service"

"Decent on paper, disappointing in reality. The room looked fine in the photos but fell short in person. We were on the ground floor and arrived to a strong smell of cigarettes - the throw blanket had a burn hole in it, suggesting a previous guest had smoked despite the advertised £100 fine. There was pink staining on the shower floor and the only chair had a broken spindle on the back - when I went to move it, the top rail separated entirely from the remaining spindles and I had to pop it back...

"My nephew and I had to relocate our hotel from the Premier at the last minute due to a change in the date of the Leicester City game, so we booked into the Bell Gate House. Having seen some reviews, we weren't expecting a great deal, just somewhere to sleep. However, despite the unassuming entrance in a perhaps slightly rundown area of town, we were very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. "It says 'basic' in the listing, and it's very cheap, so don't expect the Ritz. The bedroom and bathroom were very basic but clean, and the host was friendly and helpful - check in was easy and quick. Kettle, WiFi and TV in the room. Kebab shop etc nearby. The house and room smelled strongly of old cigarette smoke. None of the doors - bedroom, bathroom or outer door - felt securely locked. This is a property and area I would not recommend for a solo female traveller."
