Function/venue hotel

We was a little disappointed as we were the only guests in the hotel and therefore there was no atmosphere. Not the staffs fault but as they had had a busy weekend with weddings they didn't seem to have recovered from it. There were many things that weren't available as they hadn't recouped their stock. We feel it is more of a function/venue hotel and not really appropriate for couples as we spent most of our time in our room. The hotel was clean and presentable and the chef couldn't have been more helpful.

Ruined by check-out

We stayed here as a treat for my husband's birthday. The hotel was excellent, a real luxury with very friendly staff. Until we checked out I wouldn't have hesitated to give it five stars all round. However, despite the receptionist at check-in confirming we had paid in advance, on check-out they tried to charge us for the room again. Luckily I had the email confirming the payment, but the onus really shouldn't have been on me to prove this. Worse was the fact that the price they were charging was significantly cheaper than we had paid, so we had been ripped off. This rather ruined what should have been a lovely stay, and I would hesitate to book the hotel again. A shame.

The most amazing service ever!

The hotel is beautiful and charming, but the biggest plus was the staff. They were amazing! Friendly and helpful, they looked up information for us as needed and really made our stay in the Newmarket area better than it would have been otherwise. They were wonderful!

Nice hotel - But

Just the one night on this trip. A nice hotel but they had a wedding on and seemed a little stretched for experienced staff. Food was OK but they have a new chef who supplied ordinary chips instead of the menu 'chunky' chips for our bar meal! After we asked the proper 'chips' arrived some time later. The bar menu is very limited though. We had a superior room which was nice and large but really expensive - not great value at £249! Very much a 'designer' room without any real thought for the customer. Lots of wasted space. Bathroom was very small but had a good shower so OK. Not a big double bed and no feather pillows which was disappointing. Breakfast was excellent with a really helpful waitress who made this a pleasant experience. We are booked in for 4 nights when the Tattersalls sales so we are hoping for a bit more on our next trip.

Excellent in every way; good room, clean, nice venue, easy to get where we wanted to go, great breakfast ( freshly cooked) and above all friendly and helpful staff.

Perfect

Perfect in almost every way. I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer quality of this hotel - as good as any I've stayed at anywhere in the world. If pushed to find fault (which would be hard) it would have been nice to have more towels given the fantastic bath and shower.

Lovely Weekend retreat

This hotel was amazing, from driving up the long picturesque drive i knew we had chosen the right hotel to stay at. We just wanted a nice chilled night away and this hotel did the trick. The room was beautifully presented and the bath was unbelievable huge and comfortable. We drove into Cambridge for the afternoon then came back and had dinner reservations at 8pm. Our 3 course meal was beautiful, we couldnt of asked for anything more. We also made reservations for afternoon Tea the following day which was also amazing! We woke up at 10am and had breakfast delivered to the room by 10.45am. I had Eggs benedict and my Partner had a full english breakfast. The hotel is very quiet, which we didnt mind but maybe they could have a little music playing in the bar during the evening just to create a bit more atmosphere, but overall we really enjoyed our stay and will be returning.

Great service

Lovely peaceful hotel, minutes from Newmarket racecourse. Beautiful rooms and huge comfy sofas in the bar. Great service, very attentive. So much better than its sister hotel in Ely, which had really disappointed the day before.

Beautiful hotel in lovely surroundings, staff were lovely and the food was brilliant, the room was just to die for, large brass bath was just the best, wish we could have stayed longer but will return very soon to this excellent hotel

English house with great garden view

The hotel has great garden and good for family to stay. You will need a car to arrive but is very close to Main Street and Newmarket. The restaurant is a MUST try which provide delicious dishes

Fabulous

The hotel is immaculately clean, quiet, civilised and the rooms are comfortable and luxurious. We were also given a free upgrade. Would recommend to anybody wanting a quiet retreat or needing somewhere to stay in the Cambridge or Newmarket area.

Outstanding staff, beautiful hotel

Everyone was really friendly and helpful, we were even lucky enough to get a free upgrade when we arrived, which was an added bonus. I think even without the upgrade I would have given a 5* review as everything is so clean and well furnished. Will definitely go back!

Amazing hotel!

The Paddocks was a wonderful hotel, the scenery surrounding the hotel and the hotel itself are breathtaking. The staff were extremely helpful and the service was very good. I can't wait to stay there again!

Lovely hotel, with excellent staff. Customer service at its best. Would definitely stay there again. Quirky luxury. Loved the Throne chairs in the study lounge.

Almost perfect

Like its sister hotel in Ely, Poets House, Paddocks House has similarly snazzy decor (copper baths, black silk curtains, subtle lighting etc), friendly staff and a general air of comfort and wellbeing. Our stay in early January was nigh-on perfect except for a couple of caveats in the restaurant: our main, roasted loin of venison with black cabbage, black fig and salsify, could have been easily improved with a spot of sauce or jus and our double espressos (no crema at all) bore an uncanny resemblance to the coffee served at breakfast, which, by the way, was superb.
