"I really enjoyed my stay at Black Bear Lodge in Slade, Kentucky. The location was perfect—it's centrally located and made it easy to explore Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge State Resort Park, and the surrounding attractions. The room was simple but comfortable. I especially appreciated that they didn't skimp on the blankets, which made for a cozy night's sleep after a day of hiking. "Room was run down. Lock for door was hanging off the wall. Holes all in the bathroom walls. Smelled like smoke even tho it was a non smoking room. Blanket had cigarette burn holes in it. Pool was closed and covered and it was mid June. Looks like it hasn’t been open in a while. Was advertised with pool but definitely not open and working. Didn’t bother with breakfast. Was kinda sketchy"

"Price was great. Get what you paid for. It worked for the short time we were there where the late night arrival and early morning head out. Shower hand will fell off but we were able to put it back on. Can't beat the price."

The room was clean and adequate, however there were obvious repairs that needed to be done - the towel rack in the bathroom was hanging by two screws and it was obvious staff were aware of it as the towels were piled on the toilet tank; kind of interesting this simple repair was not done.
