Riffelberg - Gifthittli

I took this in Zermatt, Switzerland on May 29th :). This was taken on the train from Gornergrat to Zermatt center. So the map location is only approximate.

I had a great, short trip to Switzerland after a likewise trip to Madeira and Lisbon! And this day trip to see Matterhorn being the final day. Matterhorn being one of the most epic mountains in all of Europe and also one of the highest. It stands at 4,478 m (14,692 ft) and really does look it!

I took the train up to Gornergrat (which is at 3,135 m/10,285 ft).. And then the train back down to the Zermatt center. The view from Gornergrat was amazing, too, but the Matterhorn top was enshrouded in clouds. Going back the clouds finally started to move! And I got some pretty decent shots. Also, it was a thrilling experience being up there at Gornergrat. Despite it being late Spring it was very much like Winter! The temperature was supposedly around -6 C/21.2 F. And obviously so much snow all around. I got great views of the glacier, too. Inside the train it was much warmer, though ;). I then took the train back to Visp where I was staying. And the next day my trip was over. But was a great way to end an epic 2 weeks! And especially happy to see something I've dreamed of for so long - the majestic Matterhorn.

The Gornera River carving through Gorner gorge, you can walk through the gorge on an elevated walkway that loops around back into Zermatt.
