The lodge is located in a very remote location, despite of getting groceries are so inconvenient, Blake showed great generosity and hospitality to all the guests, make us feel like staying in an old friend's house. Kitchen, bathroom, and bed linen are of 5-stars clean. If you're planning to go on the Hump Ridge Track, choose Rarakau Lodge for your pre-departure accommodation is definitely the best option.

Staff were amazing..... made us a great coffee before we hit the trail and home made muffins. When we arrived we were offered homemade cinnamon scrolls. Sadly I had no room but others said they were the best they'd had. Rooms were very clean as was toilets/showers. Just as we left we were given some insect repellant for use on the track and our photo taken. Only reason I couldn't give 5 stars was because our bed was not very comfy (others staying did say there's were fine though) however it also didn't help that some guys in the room next to us arrived very late and made lots of noise keeping us awake all night. But other than that a great place to stay and so handy being at start of trail. Would def recommend.

Lots of personal care by owner and this made the stay enjoyable and memorable. I had a free upgrade to the deluxe room too! Excellent amenities for the venue and room was warm - catered for by a good heater. I rate this place highly, if you want a bit of time out of town for a nature retreat and quiet space. Many thanks and blessings!

Outstanding lodge and quite possibly the best in New Zealand ! Very comfortable, well equipped with high quality amenities. The hosts were spectacularly welcoming and hospitable. Arrived with the intention of staying one night, tore myself away after 10 nights ! More than 100% recommendation. Not to be missed if you visit Southland.
