"We had an amazing view from our balcony. Apartments are in excellent location - just a short walk to Pera Gialos port/bus stop, and in the other direction to a good supermarket. Owner was kind, giving us a gift when we left, and also a bottle of red wine as well as a bottle of water, when we arrived. The complimentary toiletries were also good.
Our room was cleaned regularly by helpful and kind staff, but there was a slight musty smell inside the wardrobe - possibly just the smell of the wood used, as our room was really well ventilated. Plenty of hangers in the wardrobe, and adequate kitchenware.
Note that listed 'Amenities' on Expedia website incl. 'safe at front desk' but there is no front desk or reception area; 'laundry facilities' also listed which doesn't apply to all rooms, and there is absolutely no restaurant/snack bar (or breakfast) offered on site... you must drive for 10 minutes up to Chora and then down to Livadi beach, or walk for 35 mins, to use the owner's taverna (but there are plenty of other nearby tavernas of course!).
Sadly, the pool was not really usable for me - I prefer not to be completely out of my depth, so at 1.7m/1.8m it was too deep for me. Also, the area around the pool could do with some maintenance work/tidying up, especially if using the steps to the side of the accommodation to go down to the pool.
Finally, wi-fi wasn't consistent - only really works with reliability on the balcony.
However, we did really enjoy our stay here."
"I cannot praise the Castellano enough. Built in a Cycladic style, rooms are fresh, exceptionally clean and have all you need. Each room has a terrace or balcony, with pool views. Located 15 minute drive to Chora, directly under flight path (though with only 1-2 small planes a day, this has no effect, it is quiet and peaceful in its setting with lovely pool area and plenty of parking. Extremely comfortbale beds, with branded toiletries provided and replenished. Kitchenette has fridge, microwave, hob and kettle (nearest mini market is 5 min drive away). Excellent air conditioning, which was not too noisy as some can be.
Where the Castellano truly shines and deserves 7 stars is its owners and staff. Right from walking in, Nikos and family were welcoming, friendly and always on hand. They genuinely wanted you to enjoy your stay and offer recommendations and help.
Would absolutely recommend to anyone staying in Astypalaia - one of the best stays we've had in Greece."
"Wonderful hotel, excellent staff, helpfull in every way. Rooms are large, smartly furnished and comfortable. Breakfast is tops and made with fresh local ingredients.
We had dinner at the hotel the first night we arrived. I would not recommended the dinner choices.
The hotel is vertical like most of island. Before booking, please be sure thst you're able to go up and down many, many stairs."
"Very nice Hotel the staff was amazing. The Hotel was clean and modern most of the rooms have ocean views. The only area of improvement I would be for the gym to have Wi-Fi and air-conditioning and more weights and equipment."
"Lovely, spotless clean room with amazing view of Chora. The staff was super nice and friendly and the breakfast which was served at our room was delicious. Thanks for everything!"
"In a lovely location at the end of the small Maltezana harbour. Beach just a few hundred metres away for your morning swim (snorkelling around the ww2 wreck in the bay and blue harbour cove recomended). Very well equipped and comfortable studio and Katarina is an extremely welcoming and lovely host. Taverna 20 yards away is good and others nearby, bakery and minimarket in the village. Bus service connects easily to Chora and Livadi and Astybus is super-convenient. Lovely island."
"Beautiful property just a short walk up to the windmills. The host was amazing (so nice) and she knew everything about the island. Breakfast was great, the pool was a luxury and they also operated day trips to Koutsomitis & Kounoupes islands, a must do if you get the chance.
We really enjoyed our stay."
