I stayed for 2 weeks. I chose this property because it was close to the Eureka Greek Language School where I took 18 hours of Travelers Greek. It deserves more stars but it has quirky idiosyncrasies which make getting to 5 asymptotic. The staff is friendly, the breakfast satisfying, the location ideal, the price suitable to my budget, the guests conversational and well travelled. The quirks? The elevator climbs one floor short of its destination, the room temp is best regulated by opening the window, the elevator cabin arrives short of level, the front door often is a ajar and clicks, the common space downstairs doubles as breakfast area and bar so there’s no space for quiet down time. The rooms/spaces were cleaned daily. On the whole there value here and a charming shared experience to be had.
The only positive thing I’ll say about my stay here was it was in a great location. It was centrally located and all major areas were within walking distance including the Acropolis.
On a negative note, the staff was rude, the rooms were so small I could not even fit my suitcase inside (I kept it on balcony because I couldn’t open it otherwise) , the bathrooms were unclean and overall just gross, you had to pay for a shower towel, and they turn the AC off in the rooms during the day so if you wanted to rest/nap, you’d be miserable because of the stuffiness in the room. This wasn’t my first hostel stay so I wasn’t expecting much but this was just a disappointment.
In general the hostel is good, it's very near of Acropoli, and the beds are very comfortable. The only bad things are: towels not included, you need to pay 2€ for rent and you also need to buy your locker.
Property is very clean, bedding was good quality, and there were no issues with hot water in the shower. Room seemed like it was newly renovated (room #15 on the 4th floor). It was quiet between about midnight and 6am. The elevator makes a very loud grinding bang every time it stops, which you can hear in the room and made it hard to sleep. The elevator also oddly stopped about 1/2 meter from the actual floor and the door opened, which was unsafe, so we took the stairs for the rest of our stay. Breakfast was fine, which included hard boiled eggs, apples/oranges, cereal, tomato, cucumber, cheese, ham, bread, so so filter coffee, juice. Housekeeping staff was very nice and offered every day to clean the room. Staff at the bar/breakfast area/check-in were usually professional and friendly, but the staff person at check-in seemed to hate his job and appeared irritated at normal questions. Location was great and steps from the acropolis entrance and acropolis museum, many restaurants, and shops. The roof bar terrace had an amazing view and opens at 6pm. We would stay again (and take the stairs).
My two nights at backpackers hostel was great! Friendly staff with two bars… One in the lobby, and one on the roof top with great views of the acropolis. Both bars have a one hour happy hour… Two for one drinks. Very nice breakfast served in the lobby that is also included. Rooms are cleaned daily… Mine had six bunks with a private bathroom for those six people. Nice atmosphere in the lobby to hang out as long as you want and meet other travelers. Highly recommend Backpackers hostel!
Really cozy and high classed hostel in a very good location! Sometimes it felt that I'm at the hotel than hostel because the public rooms. People were social and the staff was nice (especially cleaners).
Free breakfast was delicious and there was cleaning every day.
I will definitely stay again when I come to Athens again!!
After arriving from the airport after midnight I was ready for a shower and bed. The front desk staff took some time to find my prepaid reservation. Shortly after, I was given the security codes for the room I was sharing and the front door. I was able to shower and sleep shortly after everything was straightened out. I must say that breakfast was really good with plenty of options for bread, boiled eggs, some cereal, juice and coffee. There is a metro station close. For me it was a 10 minute walk to Syntagma Square for the 24 hour bus service to/from the airport which was the selling point for this place. The view of the Acropolis from the roof top bar was amazing. I stayed two nights and would come back just for the views, location and breakfast. The place was clean and safe.
I booked 2 nights. Nice part of city, walkable to everything. Some sexist situation or condition.
I came early before check in, girl at the front looked annoyed, and told me to wait until check in time. Then 2 men walked in a few mins later and she immediately checked them in. After witnessing that, I went to her and checked in. I won’t speculate why she gave the men immediate attention. But as a female, I’m aware of authority gap between men and women.
I also learned, I hastily booked a 6 bed mixed dorm. I was the only female. The men were nice but the bathroom situation was awkward. I requested a female dorm for next day’s booking.
The girl at the front was more accommodating and the other receptionist (male), was nice. I had to check out from mixed dorm, then re-checked in w/o having to wait long for my next bed to be cleaned.
Men and women’s lockers differed. Women had wider/bigger lockers with a shelf. 4 of the girls in my new dorm were friendly, 3 Americans, 1 German. A newly checked in girl who came after me had a haughty attitude. In my experience living in 3 continents before 23, I can spot nationality and character (stereotype) display irl. This girl was living up to her nationality’s reputation, arrogant. The other girls talked about her behind her back, and as soon as she came in, the room became quiet. My linens were musty. Apparently everyone’s linens did. The smell is from not being dried completely before storing. Towels are for rent and very thin.
It was an ok stay the location is good plenty of restaurants & fast food spots nearby there’s a bar on the rooftop with a nice view of the Acropolis & the bathrooms are well kept if you’re 6’2 or taller these beds won’t be good for you due to the short length and the A/C and was kind of weak other than that it was worth it for the money + free breakfast
