Day 1 - Haridwar to Joshimath 1 bus, 11 people, 12 hours. Deprived of sleep, I spent most of the time taking a nap or clicking pictures. We did introductions on the way, stopped for meals and learnt about the region from our much experienced driver. I was at Valley of flowers, Uttarakhand in the last week of July, a 6 day trip - my first after leaving the cubicle, also my first without anyone I knew. Since childhood I had a dream to chase the mountains closely, to feel the serenity of mountains, to breathe fresh air under open sky. I have gifted myself a treat to chase the mountains and a winter trek in December to fulfil my dream. When I started trekking to Deoriatal, as a novice, it was tough. It was tough to step ahead, it was tough to breathe, it was tough to believe that I could complete the trek. But I did. I tried, took baby steps, took rest and lastly I completed but I missed the sunset from lake side. I skipped the view of mountains range at evening time. So, I decided to wake up at early morning next day and would give myself the privilege to chase my dream. The next day around 4 am I woke up when it was too dark to step ahead out of the tent but I stepped ahead. I was fortunate to see the shades of mountains and how sun was plying with sky and kept changing the color combinations from Orange to golden and so on. I have chased my dream and stood as an evidence of the surreal beauty of Himalaya. Those moments reminded me of Imran’s poetry from ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’- “Dilon mein tum apni Betaabiyan leke chal rahe ho Toh zinda ho tum Nazar mein khwabon ki Bijliyan leke chal rahe ho Toh zinda ho tum Hawa ke jhokon ke jaise Aazad rehno sikho Tum ek dariya ke jaise Lehron mein behna sikho Har ek lamhe se tum milo Khole apni bhaayein Har ek pal ek naya samha Dekhen yeh nigahaein Jo apni aankhon mein Hairaniyan leke chal rahe ho Toh zinda ho tum Dilon mein tum apni Betaabiyan leke chal rahe ho Toh zinda ho tum” I have some more dream to chase as a traveller and hopefully I will accomplish those in 2018.
