Stunning location, wonderful wildlife

Location really amazing, stunning pool area with wonderful shady area to relax and watch wildlife. Great views to Madu river. Beautiful & extremely spacious bedrooms. Staff very helpful - for eg will book tuk tuks for local travel & are very flexible about meal times. 5 bedrooms in total so meal / wine options are limited but are very well done ( in particular the curries ).

amazing place, poor sleep

The place is amazing. It's riverside in the middle of a great cured garden with wonderful trees and birds of any kind. Peaceful and really relaxing. The suite in which we've been was very spacious and well furnished but. BUT: 1) the bed was really poor. The mattrass old and converging to the center; even worse, the structure is made of pure wood so the feeling is to sleep on the floor. 2) the air conditioning is old and noisy. When you have 90% of humidity and 33 degrees, you need to have a modern A/C, that is silent, especially during the night, especially considering the cost of the room. It doesn't take much to buy a new one.. 3) we were above the restaurant/cafe. The food is really good, but you can hear anyone talking in the evening and even worse in the morning, as the service starts around 7. So, the place is great, the service is outstanding, the place needs renewal on the basics: this is an hotel, i go there mainly to sleep. Well.

A very luxurious experience

A truely breathtaking location. The ‘hotel’ consists of 5 individual villas with a maximum of 10 guests at any time. We stayed in the room named Gin. This is the perfect place to go if you are looking for peace and tranquility. Relax, recharge and unwind in this peaceful location - the only sounds you’ll hear are from the local wildlife! The staff pay great attention to detail and cater to your every need without intruding your space. The food is outstanding and again, the chef will cater to your specific requirements. A very luxurious experience. I would highly recommend The River House. An outstanding holiday!

Fantastiskt!

Underbart boende med fantastisk service, jättefint rum, supergod mat. Så fin utsikt från våran jättebalkong som hade privat sval pool. Väldigt lugnt och harmoniskt, kändes som man var mitt i djungeln, otroligt vackert. Kan verkligen rekommendera!

Hidden Paradise

The River House is a little Paradise. The staff is very kind, helpful and makes you feel very welcome. The view is amazing and I forgot work completely. A great weekend trip out of Colombo city to get your energy back.

Tucked away jewel

Very nice Hotel tucked away in the forest of Sri Lanka. We really enjoyed the quietness and the jungle feeling in a very nice and comfortable environment with modern amenities. A great getaway overall.
