If you want to explore the "old city" of Bangkok, this is a very good hotel for you. You can walk to the Grand Palace, The National Museum, The National Gallery, Thammasat University,The Queens Museum...you can walk to the river boat cruise...as well as places like Adhere the 13th Blues Club - a very cool place. Himalaya Coffee is nearby - lots of coffee shops etc.
I wanted to save money so I took a room with no air conditioning, but the ceiling fan was good enough. Good bed, roomy room, cleaning if you want it, hot water in the shower...and you can find places to get your clothing cleaned. I was also able to find a place on 2 soi Samsen toward Samsen itself where I could take a mini-bus to the airport at the end.
The only problem was the spotty wifi - I think you can pay them for really good wifi, but what I did was to get a new sim card with unlimited minutes and I used my cell phone's hotspot for wifi when the hotel's wasn't working.
In sum, if you want to save money and explore the Old City - this is the hotel for you.
