"Our night in the Guy Fawkes Inn was so bad that by midnight we were ready to get a taxi home. We stayed in room 7. The bed was shaky, and the mattress was uncomfortable and squeaky. It was so uneven and depressed in parts that lying on it gave us both backache. The shambolic TV could not connect to the wifi (even the staff couldn’t get it to connect), so there was no option to stream a movie; we were stuck with terrestrial TV which only had a handful of channels and terrible signal. Worst of all, vibrations from movement in the building (such as people going up or down the stairs or walking around in their rooms) would set the chandelier tinkling madly, which kept waking us up. My husband ultimately had to climb onto the sofa and pad the chandelier with his socks, which barely muffled it. There was no bottled water, only one towel, and drilling from building works across the street started at 8am. The Guy Fawkes Inn can’t be blamed for that last one, but it added to the horror of the experience. There was a nice view of York Minster despite the scaffolding and the breakfast was great, but it wasn’t worth £200+. That chandelier will haunt me. "

"Location excellent, a short walk from Train Station and a Short walk into York City Centre. Breakfast excellent and room cleaned daily. The only disappointment was our room was street side and the noise from outside during the night was excessive. If you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs or book a riverside room. Rooms street side really need a better sound proofing."

"All in all it was a nice stay. Only a couple of reasons for not giving 5 stars - there was rubbish in the bin in our room and some rubbish on the bedside table on our arrival to the room. Also the air conditioning kept coming on and it was very cold and loud and wouldn’t change when adjusting the thermostat. We didn’t spend much time in the hotel so not a big issue for us but could be a problem for some. "

"The place was great. It's really close and convenient to the center of town. The staff was lovely. The room was large and great street views. I would highly recommend this place again"

"Room was lovely & clean, had a twin room & both beds were small doubles. Breakfast was lovely, fresh & plentiful. Staff were quick to clear the dishes & clean the tables for guests. Would use this hotel again."

"The hotel is well located, easily within walking distance of all shops and tourist sites. Staff are friendly and helpful. Room was fine but there was no fridge to keep drinks cool because there is also no air conditioning. Our room was really warm even though we had the window opened day and night. "
