"When a room looks too good to be true. Booked due to its location for visiting friends in both Hastings and Eastbourne, this seemed like the perfect affordable compromise. Frustratingly, it doesn’t advertise the open hours for the pub anywhere in the listing on hotels.com. Their website states the pub was open until 20:00 on Sundays. At 16:37 I get an email informing me they close at 17:00 and they aren’t open on Monday. This changed my plans from a 18:00 check in and drinks in the pub to dropping off my luggage and driving 20 minutes to find somewhere in Lewes to get food and drink. Room looked tired and was accessed via an outdoor metal staircase that’s not dog friendly and the breakfast was sub par. I really can’t recommend this place to anyone. "

"Registration was cursory. Certainly not rude, just “fill in your details and here’s your key.” No offer of assistance for two seniors to carry suitcases up narrow stairs. No further information offered. Room was adequate. Shower is traditional British style - in a very high narrow tub, very dangerous for seniors in my opinion. Notice in room that no outside food allowed, and may result in an additional charge. Overall good value for money, but more of a two star than a three star hotel. "

"Easy parking , very clean . Older property but loads of character. Best pieces for me was the warm welcome and the couple could not have helped me more and the food is absolutely fantastic. Family run very personable , would definitely stay again "

"The property is lovely and separate from the mail house which is nice. The hosts are great and helped us out when we had to stay longer. As described and a great and relaxing boot hole. Particularly nice was milk in the fridge when we arrived for the available tea and coffee. A really nice touch!"

"If you're looking for a peaceful stay in a period country house then Cleavers Ling is the perfect place for you. Our bedroom was comfortable. The breakfast room, with its oak beams and inglenook fireplace set the scene for our host, Sally, to bring us full English breakfasts, (my eggs were poached to perfection). Tea from a large silver service tea pot poured without dripping on the linen tablecloth and the toast from the toast-rack rounded off the meal and set us up for the morning. We were also offered home made banana bread wrapped up for a mid day snack. All this made our three night stay....perfect. Thank you Sally!"
