I'd look to go around 3/4 pm so you get to see it in the day, dusk and night. We've been twice in February and not too busy.

Remember to bring waterproof phone cover, food was very nice at lava restaurant. Cheaper to rent car than take a taxi as taxis very expensive.

8am slot, perfect, not too many people. Once in the blue lagoon waters, walk left to the mud mask hut and walk right to the bar.
