This is truly one of the best places I’ve stayed! Amazingly beautiful property with fantastic staff and within walking distance to shopping and dining options and even to a few wineries. Lovely ambience and homey feeling but very upscale. I fully recommend.
We absolutely loved our stay at Akademie Street Boutique Hotel. We were greeted with an warm welcome from the team and felt right at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms are stunning, clean and spacious. The evening cocktails and wine are a wonderful touch and the breakfast is a must! Location is walkable to main strip with a fantastic selection of restaurants and shops.
Very pleasantly surprised. Very boutiquey, very tasteful, delicious poolside breakfast, beautiful rooms and great service. Just perfect for visits to Franschhoek, no hesitation required.
Declan was an incredible host and his staff made every effort to accommodate us at every turn. Local wines by the fire in the conservatory was such a comfortable way to unwind in the evenings. Declan managed to get us last minute dinner reservations at Rubens which was spectacular. The inn is steps from all the Franschhoek has to offer. This is the place to stay while visiting this charming wine region!
The Akademie Street Boutique hotel and staff exceeded all expectations. The rooms are lovely and the amenities outstanding. The breakfast options are plentiful and delicious. We had cocktails or wine every evening in the orangerie which is lovely. The pool and hot tub are wonderful as well. We can’t say enough about the exceptional service provided by all of the staff. They also communicated well by email prior to our trip which was very reassuring and provided us options for transportation from the airport and back to Cape Town. We highly recommend Franschhoek and this lovely hotel which is in easy walking distance into town. Thanks to the wonderful Akademie team.
Sad to leave but thrilled to have stayed at Akademie. However we do have unfinished business so we will be back, that is certain.
Our room was just exceptional: spacious, well equipped and the staff fired up the balcony hottub based on our return time, you might think a hottub in the glorious weather we had, but yes…. To sit there for 30 minutes and just stare at the mountains and the blue sky above was magical.
The breakfasts either served in the orangery of pool side were a taste bud delight. Worth returning just for the breakfast.
They say you get what you pay for, this applies to everything about Akademie.
The welcome and advice provided by Declan and staff was excellent and what wonderful people they are.
We have visited many locations and stayed in many hotels. This is my joint favourite, so we will return.
A big thank you to Declan’s team 🙏👏🙏👏
This hotel is one of the most attention to detail I have stayed in,you could not fault anything or anybody connected to this establishment.A truly amazing space to relax.
This was one of the most beautiful hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The room was well appointed and gorgeously designed. The premises were stunning. The staff and owner were friendly. The hotel is located within walking distance of Franschhoek’s Main Street and quite safe.
Excellent in every way. The property is simply stunning and exceptionally decorated. The room was so comfortable, luxurious, spacious, and unique. This hotel is has thought of everything and goes above and beyond. The breakfast in the morning is over-the-top amazing. The service was excellent. The location is perfect and super walkable. I cannot sing enough praises for this hotel. We have traveled a lot and this is hands down one of the best properties we have ever stayed at. Cannot recommend enough. We are looking forward to coming back.
There are no words to describe our stay here. We will be back vey soon that is for sure. This guest house takes all standards you know and destroys them with a higher level. The service was 5 star. Accomadtions 5 star. Food 5 star, wine 5 star. The atmosphere they put on each day and night 5 star.
We had the pleasure to stay while the owner and his family were there as well from Ireland. What an amazing family. Tucked away in one of the most beautiful places on earth if you cannot find peace at this hotel then you will never find it.

We stayed at Akademie Street Boutique Hotel during July and booked 3 rooms for our travel party. We arrived in the late afternoon, only to find that there was load shedding underway, and the resort had made no provision of inverters or generators for our rooms. So our first experience of our rooms was dark, cold and gloomy. Trying to unpack and get set up in our rooms while stumbling around in the dark was no fun. Overall, we had power less than half the time we at the resort. There was no disclosure when we made the booking that the resort had no electricity backup, and we assumed that since load shedding has been ongoing for years, that such provision would have been made at a resort of this calibre. The only bright spot was that all the staff were really nice, and the breakfast was good (although no artisan coffees as the barista machine was off due to loadshedding; no toast due to loadshedding, etc). We had had high expectations coming to Akademie, but it was a very disappointing experience at a resort that charges a premium rate. Buyer beware...
Everything was thought of. The room was outstandingly beautiful. All drinks were free and offered by the pool and other shared spaces, as well as in the room.
Staff were awesome and breakfast was incredible.
Absolutely beautiful space, very central location that lets you walk to dinners nearby and top notch service. If you can stay here, you should book it!!!
stay
My husband and I just spent four nights in the magical and whimsical Akademie Street Boutique Hotel and we can’t say enough good things about it. From the moment we arrived, we were in awe of this lovely hotel. We were greeted so warmly by Declan who seems to magically appear to meet your every need. From restaurant recommendations and reservations to day excursion ideas and lots in between, he made our stay so comfortable and easy.
The location is perfect as well…a minute walk to the main street of Franschhoek.
The decor of the hotel, the setting and the outdoor spaces are all just stunning and relaxing. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner and hearing the story of the property and you soon realize how his vision has made this hotel so captivating.
We have traveled extensively and there are a few special places in this world that we will always remember and this is definitely at the top of the list. Do not hesitate to book this fantastic hotel in beautiful Franschhoek.
Fantastic place. I'd highly recommend. The manager, Declan, was so gracious and determined to make sure we had everything we could dream of... Great location and you can't go wrong with the food nearby. If we come back to South Africa we will definitely stay here and recommend to all we meet and know.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Exceptional customer service with nothing too much trouble. Every little detail had been thought of to ensure we had a relaxing comfortable stay
Staff are so friendly. We arrived really early so they looked after all our bags, allowing us to go & have a wine tasting & lunch. The rooms are quirky - very traditional to look at but with all mod cons you could ask for. Breakfast was amazing - so much choice! & a lovely idea to have sundowner & night cap drinks
