No matter where you're coming from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you've planned ahead. We've compiled a list of handy tips that will get your Bartlett holiday started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Travelling on a plane can be easy if you've got all the right gear. First things first, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a spare set of clothes and something to read. Next, find a spot in your carry-on bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any daily medications and maybe a neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, don't forget to take your passport, travel papers and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of restricted items differs between airlines, the general rule to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like box cutters, razor blades, spray paint and flares. Sporting equipment like baseball bats, and objects that could injure passengers, such as firearms and swords, can't come on board with you either.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your main aim is to feel as comfortable as you can. Choose a pair of flat, closed-toe shoes, dress in loose, natural-fibre clothing and remember to take a pullover in case you get chilly in the cabin.
- Most travellers are aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of sitting. To minimize your risk on board, drink plenty of water, consider wearing compression socks and keep your legs and feet moving.
