If you're poorly prepared, airports and flying can be daunting. But there's no need to panic. Follow these useful tips and enjoy a trouble-free start to your time in Birmingham. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be a pleasure if you've got all the right gear. Firstly, you'll want a few toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a clean pair of socks and a good read. Next, find a spot in your bag for your mobile phone, a charger, any medications and perhaps a cosy neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, be sure to bring your passport, travel papers and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. Sharp objects, like your precious pocket knife, and dangerous products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, flares and poisons, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your top priority is to feel as comfortable as you can. Pick flat, closed-toe shoes, dress in loose, natural-fibre clothing and remember to bring a jacket in case you get cold in the cabin.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by extended periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Make a point of walking around the cabin or do some gentle exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.
