"It is hard to imagine a better hotel to stay in for your Gold Country vacation. This is a historic property in the heart of old Grass Valley. The property is very well kept up - possibly even beyond its original splendor. The on site restaurant is probably the best in the area - - we tried several, but none were as good as The Golden Gate Saloon (full bar, lunch and dinner). A reasonable free continental breakfast was served buffet style in the morning. Because it is a historic property, you wont find things like swimming pools here - - but that's no big deal, there are lots of opportunities for swimming on the Yuba River and local lakes - - in fact, I'd rather be in that natural setting for a swim. There is also a fine public pool in Grass Valley at Memorial Park. Downside issues: We were always able to find parking in the hotel's parking lot, but it was sometimes tight. Getting ice is a bit of a hassle - - there is no direct access to an ice machine, one must ask for ice at the kitchen door of the restaurant. There is no in-room coffee, but there is free coffee available in the morning in the downstairs continental breakfast. And this one is personal to me and may not apply to you: the mattress on the bed was too firm for me, causing me to have some modest pain in my hips after three days of sleeping on it. I'd still go back to this hotel."
