Found room boiling due they had activated central heating and can not be controlled room by room. Receptionist said "this is England". Also rooms had no isolation and no door seal, so you will hear doors banging all the time from other clients.

We stayed for one night and wanted somewhere easily reachable from 2 visits we were making over 2 days. This location was convenient and also quiet for a good nights rest. We didn’t use the restaurant. We used the pool facilities in the morning. Which was lovely and clean. The hot tub was out of order though which was a shame as I was looking forward to it. The bedroom was clean and modern with everything you need for a good rest. Lots of parking.

Very disappointed - room was dusty and needed a deep clean, bed uncomfortable, no A/C, tv remote didn’t work. Basic room, no upgrade. Food was average and expensive, breakfast was a mess - hot food not replenished quickly, coffee machine needed refilling and staff member rude. Hotel in the middle of nowhere by an industrial estate in the countryside, no walks to amenities. Clientele made us feel uncomfortable. Parking good, pool, steam, sauna and hot tub very good and grounds nice. Reception staff excellent and dealt with my complaint efficiently.

Great location, but the rooms weren’t clean. Breakfast was a nightmare. They took forever getting the breakfast items out. Staff too slow to take away dirty plates. Staff don’t acknowledge you are waiting and they chatter to each other.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Room was lovely, carpet was dirty but minor problem. Food was great however the sausage with the mash was a bit chewy. Staff were lovely and friendly. Only issue we had was a large group of inconsiderate people at 1am arriving in taxis laughing and shouting outside our open window (it was hot). Not the staff's fault however assumed security would of dealt with them. The noise went on for about 20 mins. Other than that love it and would definitely come again.

To start the room was very dusty and not generally very clean to the standard I would expect. Secondly it was very loud with doors banging in the evenings and through the night and we could easily hear people talking in the hall way late hours stopping us from getting a good night sleep. Thirdly the bath was in desperate need of re sealing. Fourthly we used the pool facilities on our first day and the pool had far to much chlorine and the jacuzzi was even worse to point where you couldn’t sit in it and breath for more than 1 minute lots of people were saying about it around the pool. It actually made me sick in the bathroom after being in it as my mouth tasted like chemicals and when I coughed / breathed it’s all I could taste. I think these levels must be harmful. I felt awful for the rest of my day and ruined my weekend. we arrived for our first morning of breakfast and wasn’t even greeted or told what to do. So we found our table, we had to ask for cutlery as they had ran out. We then asked what there was as all the dishes were empty when we arrived and had to wait to have them refilled. The coffee machine also didn’t work. There really wasn’t much choice either. I also had to ask for pouched eggs twice as they didn’t arrive. Next when I checked out, I said I’m here to check out the lady snatched the card out of my hand and said ‘what room number’ I said 32 and then that was it. She didn’t ask how our stay was or anything

Lovely hotel. A great pool area with the warmest Jacuzzi I have ever experienced. Lovely grounds with a lovely golf course the rooms are lovely and big and modern, very comfortable. The only slight downside was in the dining area for dinner, there were a lot of tables not cleared, Had to clear our table self, not easy to get a drink. However, seemed very busy. We would go back.

First impressions were excellent and the room was faultless. However the hotel building was away from the reception area and was unmanned and always open with just a vending machine that was almost empty, at the other end of the building where our room was was another external door leading to the bin area and again this was just left unlocked so the only security was your actual room door. Our room was next to the bin area and was woken at 7am with the bins being emptied and our headboard vibrating as they clearly banged the bins into the wall. It was only a one night visit otherwise we would have asked to be moved. Lovely room though, just felt a little insecure and definitely very noisy next to the bins so unfortunately wouldn’t stay here again.

I have mixed feelings about my stay. Would I book again? for the parts of my stay which I thoroughly enjoyed yes, but I think I would be reluctant to, without knowing exactly what room I would be staying in. Out of the two rooms reserved for myself and my boys, one room overlooked the car park and one over looking the golf course with a fabulous view. My room overlooking the car park happened to be an adjoining room (which would have been ideal for us as a family). I am so pleased however, that my boys had the room over looking the golf course, as the noise and lack of sound proofing from the adjoining room that I had, meant that I could hear the couples arguments, make ups and banter word for word well into the night and for the duration of the weekend. On the Friday night a late night party within the club meant that people dispersing from the party were congregating below my window to have a final smoke, whilst chatting rather loudly and ordering cabs until late. I was not able to sleep until well after 2 am. The golfers early start meant I was awoken again around 6am, meaning my first night was sadly a wash out. My only other comment about the rooms would be that both hadn't been hoovered and it was very noticeable. Other than that the rooms had everything needed for a comfortable stay. I thought the spa & gym was perfect, clean and made a lovely rest zone for us which we took full advantage of. The staff were lovely & helpful and the food in the clubhouse was delicious.

Overall had a very comfortable stay. Room was looking a bit tired (standard room). Room doors could do with being “soft close” as they banged shut very loudly which woke me a few times later in the evening. Great setting though - I used the gym and ate in the bar. Next time I will use the pool facilities for sure. Would definitely stay again.

The Essex Golf Hotel
First impressions of the Essex is very good, nice location reception staff excellent, helpful and very welcoming, unfortunately it’s a shame the level of professionalism stops there. Bedrooms very average, bed was comfortable enough but certainly no better than a travel lodge or premier inn so you may as well save yourself the difference. Room was ok, but some of the hotel’s cleanliness requires a bit of attention. Bar staff not particularly great and drink prices changed every time I purchased a round of drinks and certainly not good value, glasses scruffy, very poor warm wine and when I brought this up with staff, I was told to just put some ice in it. Mowing machines start around 7.30am on Sunday morning so you may as well book an early breakfast, but at £16 pp you would be better going to the garden centre just a long the road it does a really good brekfast at half the price. Breakfast the next morning acceptable, but again when I told staff the coffee machine didn’t work, I was told I’m not surprised it never does.
