After the Romans in the beginning of our era, England experienced only one successful invasion in its entire history. The man who realized that was the Norman William the Conqueror. In September 1066, his invasion fleet departed from Normandy. But a storm on the Channel forced him to secure his ships for a few days, and that happened in the estuary of the Somme, in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. Imagine the photo with almost 700 ships on the horizon! #History
