Kilford Arms Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Room was fine but all older hotels in Europe face a problem with climate change. Air conditioning was not important when they were built, but sweltering Irish weather when we visited made the room very uncomfortable. A fan was provided, but it made little difference. The basement is a fascinating study in recycling old buildings!"

Kilkea Castle

8/10 Good

"The character of the castle is excellent. Christian toured me around the proper and is a superb concierge. The room itself is lacking. It smells strongly of mildew. Carpeting is worn. Amenities like coffee and cookies need an update. The food at dinner was overly salted and the service declined during the dinner - strong start and a weak finish."

"Room was clean and the bar downstairs was nice. We also appreciated the air-conditioning and the private parking so we didn't have to try to find parking along the street. The location was the most convenient thing. Once we parked our car we didn't have to use it again until we left Kilkenny, everything was within walking distance and centrally located. I will say, I chose this hotel because it would have views of the castle, and it may, but we did not get one of those rooms so that was a bummer."

"The welcome at reception was very friendly with plenty of useful advice. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The bar was a pleasure and the breakfast/coffee room was well supplied. Overall, the hotel is a great place to stay and only a ten minute walk to the town centre. Highly recommended."
