"What a great place. Obviously a popular pub in the village with regulars. Visitors made to feel welcome. Lovely room, all named with Winnie the pooh names. Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast basket was great, loved the croissants. Highly recommend."

"Clearly the Smith & Western is a themed hotel and restaurant and they really commit, with saddle stools, staff in cowboy hats, caribou light fixtures and antler tissue boxes. Each room is named after and Indian tribe, ours, Arapaho was spacious and clean. With a kettle, coffee machine and mini bar, the amenities were good. The TV had apps for all the catch-up channels plus Prime, Apple, Disney etc. The carpet was a little tired and stained on the stairs but otherwise it was well maintained. The booking said it included continental breakfast but in fact it was a choice of tasty cooked options along with endless juice, tea and coffee. If you’re looking for a lighter or healthier option, this isn’t for you as there’s no pastries, cereal or fruit. The car park was half empty when we arrived around 2:20 and has direct access to Sainsbury’s next door. There is a night entrance if you’re coming back late or don’t want to go through the restaurant. The pantiles is no more than 10min walk and the Forum is just 5min. Not a cheap option but very pleasant and a great location for our weekend plans."

"Great hosts, very comfortable room and lounge area, good WiFi (if you want it), fantastic breakfasts with a wonderful choice of cereals and cooked. The quiet location but with Wadhurst and other places close enough to make it a great place to base yourself and do some touring of the surrounding area. We would quite happily book this again if and when we’re back in the area."

"Reception was excellent. Grounds/estate amazing, miles of walking and an historic church with a 900 or so old Yew. It is worth reading the history of the place, layers and layers of it. They take beautiful care of the property. I had a beautiful room with a beautiful view right out my doors and a little patio. They do host big events ie weddings and it is not as peaceful, so you may want to check if there is a big event - IF you are seeking more quiet. I would return in a blink. In general i have found Hand Picked Hotels is gracious and treats guests like the manor house staff would have treated the owners. part of the history includes the 1987 storm went thru there a interesting to look at what happened. convenient to Sheffiled Park but take time to walk at Buxted also"
