Don't judge this hotel by it's 1960's exterior. Inside it's a modern comfortable budget hotel/hostel, catering to all types of travellers & age groups. I had a single "hostel" type room with a shared bathroom across the hall. The rooms are nicely furnished in a simple modern style, with space to hang clothes, a single bed (width abt 77cms), bedside shelf, small table, desk & 3 chairs. I found both the room & bathrooms to be well looked after & kept very clean by the housekeeping staff.
The reception staff were at all times very helpful, friendly & courteous, some spoke more English than others, but they all spoke a lot more English than I do German, so I thank them for their patience. The reception is open 24 hours & there is a small bar where you can get hot & cold drinks.
I only tried the breakfast once & it was a typical continental breakfast with an assortment of bread, cheeses, hams/sausages, fruits & drinks, etc. I only went the once simply because I preferred to eat a brunch a little later after breakfast finished being served which is 10am. There is a great little bakery/cafe just across the street which does amazing cakes/pastries.
The walk to the old town is 5 minutes, maybe 15 mins to the banks of the Elbe & that was strolling. Lot's of great restuarants again literally across the road. Trams stops also neaby.
I really can not fault this hotel & I think it's excellent value for money.
I would definitely stay here again.
