"Lodge not quite what we were hoping for based on previous great reviews. The lodge itself is very charming. It was clean and decorated nicely. We knew how far away it was from Yellowstone, but the drive between was not ideal. The roads into the community where the lodge is located are extremely bumpy, gravel/dirt roads.
The biggest concern for us right away was safety. Although there is a front door with a door knob and deadlock, the deadlock is not functional at all - there is no bolt, nor a hole in the frame for it to go into. The doorknob lock is not secure whatsoever- we were literally able to jiggle the doorknob and open the door because the door is not set properly and tightly into the frame. You can see daylight peeking in around the door. When I called about the broken deadlock, he informed me that actually all the doors in every lodge was like that because they replaced the doors, but there are not holes in the frames for the bolts.
I was only semi-scared about safety from other people since it’s so secluded, but I was SUPER concerned about safety from bears. This is grizzly country and everywhere we go we see education about not leaving food out in cars or in cabins, and making sure your cabin is locked and secure. A door would have taken this door down in about 1 second. The man I spoke to confirmed there are absolutely bears in the area, but stated they had never had a problem with them in cabins. Didn’t make me feel much better at all."
