"We chose this hotel because of its countryside location and were looking forward to a quiet break outside of Durham City Centre for a weekend trip. Unfortunately, a large event took place during our stay and we were not informed in advance, despite being told that guests are usually notified when such events are taking place when I raised the issue. The event resulted in significant noise late into the evening, and there was no evening food service available to resident guests as a result. Had we known this beforehand, we would have chosen alternative accommodation. The room itself was also disappointing. The décor was tired, the window did not close properly, the shower leaked, and there were noticeable stains on the flooring. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and our concerns are directed at the hotel's communication and overall guest experience rather than the team on the ground. We have no objection to the hotel hosting large events, but guests should be informed when such events are likely to affect their stay. Unfortunately, we will not be returning."

"Room was cold so we put on the a/c. It blew cold air continually. We thought it would eventually blow warm air. At 3am my husband was so cold we decided to leave for home. The checkout lady told us we should have gone to her as it’s controlled at reception. Would have been good to know this."

"Hotel staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly but having stayed in bannatyne hotels previously, this one is extremely disappointing. No breakfast was included nor was the gym so all additional extras and to be told if I booked direct the gym would have been included is very unhelpful. The one morning I went over to the health club for breakfast I was greeted by a very unhappy woman behind the till in the cafe who complained she had too much going on by herself. This might have had something to do with 5 members of staff stood at reception talking! Definitely won’t be staying here again, utterly ridiculous!"

"Friendly staff, good free parking on the hotel grounds. Good location. Beautiful, old building, but that’s also the issue. We could here people walking on the floor above us. The bathroom is clean and nice but they forgot to place shower curtain, so was impossible to shower without water being everywhere. Wish these parts were better maintained. Somewhat tired building/facilities, but we only stayed overnight, so that’s ok. Breakfast is rather plain but staff is super friendly."
