If you're in Scotland for a few days & likely to visit more than one heritage site, definitely get an Explorer Pass - it'll save you a fortune! They last 4 or 5 days & give you unlimited entry plus fast track entry, so you can jump the queues completely. We went to Stirling castle too & even with just these two castles, we'd already saved money compared with buying normal tickets. They do family or individual ones, but as it was just me & my daughter, our best value option was individual tickets; worked out at £59 for both of us for a 4 day ticket which sounds a lot, but trust me - compared with normal ticket prices for more than one place, that's a bargain!
Excellent location if you are heading for the Tattoo
don't go when there is a gale and heavy rain as we did!
Too many tourists (including us).
expensive at £19.99 per head to get in
