Essaouira Province Travel Guide

Marrakech-Safi

Some of the most beautiful sunsets I've experienced. This is really an amazing place and it was never crowded. A sleepy little coastal village in Morocco. The actual town is a 15-20 min walk and the beach only has one beachfront hotel with direct access.

It wasn't until we arrived at these ramparts on the shore of the Essaouira medina that we noticed their striking resemblance with the set of a Game of Thrones scene; and a quick Google search proved us right! Essaouira was one of the many impressive locations where Game of Thrones was filmed, in this case, serving as the city Astapor, from where Daenerys Targaryen would acquire her 8,000-strong army of the Unsullied. As an avid Game of Thrones fan, it was especially cool to stumble upon this breathtaking site, one of the many incredible parts of the historic and UNESCO-certified, white-washed oceanfront city.

The small coastal town of Essaouira, Morocco. Get out early to see the fishermen at work. And return in the mid-afternoon to see their catch. Wander the streets and walk along the castle walls peering out into the ocean. Unlike the craziness of Marrakech or Fez, Essaouira is a breath of fresh air and well worth a visit.
