Savoia Excelsior Palace Trieste – Starhotels Collezione

"We really enjoyed our stay in the Savoie Excelsior in Trieste. We did not dine or drink in the hotel, so experience was limited to passing through the foyer and use of our room. Our stay was to some extent marred by two aspects. Firstly, the accommodation offered to us on check-in, while being a junior suite with balcony/seaview, was lacking important elements compared to the advertised specification. There was no table and chairs in the room and the shower was incorporated with the bath, which we consider unsafe. The initial response was that specification varied with rooms. However, the specification differed only on the downside in this case and no other Junior Suite was available that did fit the specification in Hotels.com/Hotel Website. It would be better if the hotel was actually precise in its specification at point of booking/purchase so a properly informed decision can be made. The Hotel’s response was an acceptably priced upgrade that did actually meet our needs and then more. Secondly, the Hotel sought to add on a 5% gratuity to the whole bill - for staff. This is a novel development of the tipping culture. While they did not persist with this, it leads to an awkward situation. It did bring to my attention that an add-on to the rate quoted on Hotels.com of 10% for Taxes and Fees was already being charged, in addition to local city taxes. I would like to get clarification of what exactly is being covered by this 10%. Fine hotel, well located. Be on the alert"

"Beautiful building in what seemd to appear as a former turn of the century palace. Location could not be better, within walking distance of all major attractions, stores and restautants. Room was extremely comfortable and with impecable design."

"This was the best hotel my wife and I have ever stayed in our world travels so far. The staff was very professional, courteous and attentive to our every concern. We never waited long when emailing them a single inquiry. They provided personal transport from the airport to their hotel upon our arrival as well as transfer back to the airport on our day of departure. The driver was highly professional, helpful with our luggage and accommodating. The entire hotel--particularly the rooms we reserved--was very clean, well-ventilated and orderly. Bedding, restroom, floor, mirrors and even television were all clean. They helped us with our many luggage bags, safely stored them before our room was ready and had their transport service at the ready the moment we had our early morning checkout at 4:00am. The breakfast bar was plentiful: breads, pastries, fresh meats, a wide selection of juices and fresh-made espresso from the bar. We have never met a friendlier, more professional hotel staff than that of Victoria Letterario. They made our introduction into Italy a most-welcome and stress-free one. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone booking a trip to Trieste, Italy."

"We were a bit confused with the check-in process but once we found our room all was great. The room was spacious and it was lovely having the terrace. The resort is a half hour walk to Piran and there are plenty of dining options along the way. The only complaint was there was nowhere to purchase water after 10.30pm."

"The room was clean and in a good location. There was no A/C, however (we were told it was Sunday and there was no solution before we checked out). It was quite warm and it was quite loud with all the windows open. The WiFi was very poor."
