"A grand old hotel with lovely decor and furnishings. We stayed 2 nights in Room 518, a spacious junior balcony suite. The highlight was easily the 2 balconies — one large, well-furnished, and a real treat given the central location and view out to the sea.
The bed was comfortable, with two pillow types offered per guest, and the amenities and toiletries were luxurious: large “minis”, plus gorgeous slippers in two sizes - an unusual touch. The bathroom was marble and attractive, though with only a single sink and tight toiletry space; a shower/tub combo, plus a bidet and washcloths. The walk-in closet was enormous.
Location is excellent — 2 minutes from the main square, the HOHO bus stop, and close to dozens of restaurants and shops — and the soundproofing and blackout drapes meant it stayed quiet despite being central. Breakfast buffet had good variety, with fresh orange juice, gluten-free options included; à la carte items cost extra.
A few things kept this from 5 stars. Staff were competent but not particularly warm. A pillow menu was tucked away in a desk drawer and not mentioned at check-in — an easy miss for guests. Our toilet seat was broken on arrival (something housekeeping would have seen before we checked in) and was fixed quickly once we mentioned it, but it shouldn’t have needed mentioning. The carpets showed noticeable staining in places, suggesting a refresh is due.
Overall, a comfortable, well-located stay with real old-world character. We’d happily return."
