Gorman Falls

As a longtime Texas resident, Gorman Falls is one of my favorite places. It is a waterfall in Colorado Bend State Park that is a wonderful reprieve from the typically hot summer days. The falls are spring fed and covered with travertine (cave formations) that have formed over the millennia. The falls essentially create a cool otherworldly microclimate. While the park offeres ample camping, the nearby town of Llano can be enjoyed by those who prefer a hotel room and a bed. Be sure to enjoy a stop at the nearby Fiesta winery if in the area. The wine isn't anything special, but it's drinkable and the owners are often there and will share with you the history of their land and operation.
