First time staying at a Ryokan and it exceeded all my expectations. From the open air hot spring on a snowy day to the amazing Keiseki meal, it was a blast. I highly recommended this place to everyone.

I was visiting Japan with my family for 2 weeks and wanted a real authenticate Ryokan experience. We booked a private bath bungalow with dinner and breakfast. We took a taxi from the train station and back which was roughly $60.00 US one way which is typical US for a 40 min drive. I decided this was worth it with All or bags. The staff was very good. Especially the Japanese women that served us meals. Although, unlike other reviews stated, there was very little English spoken or understood , but, with Google Translate we managed. The property was a bit worn, but, not to the point of affecting the experience. Be warned, the food is very typical Kaiseki style Japanese and may not fit western pallets. Also the staff tends to run 20-30 mins early. We had dinner scheduled at 7:00 but they knocked and started prepping at 6:30. They have a prep kitchen in your bungalow if you have the private bath. So, be out of you hot tub and presentable 30mins ahead. Also we arrived at 1:00. Checkin was at 3:00. They were addament that I could not stay at the hotel. They did however let me leave our luggage and there is a hot community bath facility just down the road with a little shop so we were able to grab lunch and kill a couple hours Overall I was pleased with the experience.

산속의 전통일본 료칸

산속의 편안함. 좋은 식사 다 만족스러움. 그러나 무엇보다도 살짝 유황향이 나는 온천수가 좋았습니다.

箱根三河屋の経験

11月の中旬に、男女5名のグル－プで宿泊した。明治初期に開業したとのことで各所に古さと新しさを組み合わせる工夫をしていると感じられた。欧米人のグル-プも何組か宿泊していたが"Very Nice”とのこと・・・。

This Onsen is good and with super nice environment. The Onsen itself is clean and the scenery is super good. Besides, the food provided by the Onsen is also veryyyyyy nice and yummy.

Wonderfull stay in the Tenkei room.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Tenkei room (smoking with private onsen). We were on vacation visiting Japan for the first time. We wanted to spend some time away from the big cities on our way from Kyoto to Tokyo, and had heard good things about the Hakone area. Taking the Shinkansen we got off at Odawara and took a bus from the station. The public bus stop was directly across from Mikawaya Ryokan. We arrived a bit after 4 pm and were greeted on the steps. Neither my girlfriend nor I speak ANY Japanese and had no issues at all. The staff that was working these days were proficient enough in English to communicate within the context of the stay. We had an extremely enjoyable time, it was a highlight of our time in Japan.

Fantastic food and service

This is a great place. Had a fantastic time, private onset was well worth it. The food was wonderful. i noted a few people on expedia have commented about the lack of english and challenging food but really that is why you go to this type of place. truly a fantastic and an undiluted experience. Would not change a thing.

오랜 료칸에 분위기가 좋았고 일본 분위기를 느낄 수 있었다 교통편도 좋아서 역에서 버스를 타면, 약 20분만에 도착

great experience

Stayed there 2 nights with open bath private hot spring and shower and private toilet. The room was a traditional japanese room for 4 ( but be honest it will be really tight for 4 adults). Excellent service, not all staff speaking english but very authentic ryokan experience. The hotel has main building that is over 100 yrs old, another building is new addition and some villa. The hotel has a mountain bus stop right in front perfect for Hakone town centre. Recommend you buy Hakone freepass and research location first. With large luggage, better consider taxi ride. Cable car station is uphill walk about 15 mins. Food presentation is excellent for both morning and dinner.. go between 7:30 to 9 and 5:30 to 8 for your food.
