"Breakfast area was well staffed and maintained. Ramp up to the beach access was a big plus. It might be nice to add a connection from the pool area across to the beach access."
"My daughter and I had a nice stay for two nights. Clean room, beds, and bathroom. The room included a microwave and mini fridge. The bathroom had a walk-in shower. The toilet was small and it was a little crammed in the bathroom, but we managed. This renovated motel is an unique find. It's two buildings; one directly on the beachfront and one just a walk to the beachfront. We stayed in the one from the beach. I highly recommend this motel for quick getaway to the beach."
"The overall property was clean and well maintained, the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. There were so many planned activities for the whole family. I will definitely go again. My grandchildren had a blast."
Travelodge by Wyndham Outer Banks/Kill Devil Hills
6/10 Okay
"Stay was OK (some things better than expected, some lacking). Interior seemed freshly painted and clean. Front desk personnel varied in their knowledge or helpfulness. I paid extra to be able to cancel totally or any part of intended stay (3 nights). An opportunity caused me to cancel the third night prior to the daily check out time (did it via your online service used to send a message to the hotel). Have heard nothing about my third night refund. That undermines the positives of the stay. Also, hotel is a long block from the beach with properties in between, so the website that indicates you're right on the beach is misleading. How can you as the vehicle for this reservation help secure the refund for the unused third night?"
"I had to go to Kill Devil Hills for the wedding of a cousin, plus my birthday. I had never stayed at a hotel in this area before, so I relied on the reviews of other travelers. Shutters on the Banks received very good reviews and rating, so I chose it. This hotel is right on the beach. It was exceptionally clean in my room. I was very impressed. There were two women at the front desk; one of them had a birthday the day after mine, and they were both very helpful, friendly, and a real joy to speak with. There was an indoor and an outdoor pool, and a small gym, but I didn't get to use any of these amenities. Get a room in the tower building, at least on the third floor or higher. I had a room on the second floor, which had a nice little balcony and some Adirondack chairs, but all I could see were the dunes, not the Atlantic Ocean. There was also a complimentary breakfast, but alas, I did not get to eat there. The grounds were also very well kept. If I ever go back to this area, this is the hotel where I will stay. My only complaints are 1) I had a room with two queen beds, and the bed I slept in had a raised elongated lump, which made me unable to lie flat, and to roll off to the side of the mattress. The other issue was the shutters; I closed them as tightly as possible, but by 6 am, it was as bright as noon in the room. The second night I had to drape a blanket across the shutters to keep the room dark enough to sleep."
