The building was set on fire in the night of 18–19 February, the day before the mass sniping fire took place. The pink spots symbolize the victims who did not survive the fire.

Monument to the Founders of Kiev on Maidan (Independence Square), the central square of Kiev. Since the start of Ukraine's independence movement in 1990, the square has been the traditional place for political rallies and protest campaigns.
The roof of the hotel on the background was one of the locations where snipers were shooting at protesters during “Euromaidan” (February 2014).
