"Checking was easy and we felt welcomed by the staff. There is security everywhere so always felt very safe. Our room was clean and spacious, the bathroom was fine but there was no handheld in the shower and the bathtub has a high ledge. They are very strict about their towels and are careful to explain we would be charged if any went missing. I get it, but the pool towels get wet quickly and never dry so I wasn’t exactly sure what to do with those. Parking was easy and free. The food at the buffet restaurant was unimpressive. The food at the Virgita restaurant was very good and the included breakfast has many options. The staff at both places were very kind and welcoming. There were hardly any guests when we were there and on one hand I was glad not to be surrounded by people at all the pools etc, it also felt a little dead. The various pools were fun. If you go down the water slides be sure to plug your nose because the plunge into the pool at the end will send so much water up your nose you’ll choke! Overall it was an enjoyable stay and the property was nice."

"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Beautiful Resort – Highly Recommend! What a beautiful resort! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the stunning property and the overall atmosphere. The entire resort was absolutely gorgeous, and every detail added to its charm. The pools were beautiful, clean, and heated, which made them even more enjoyable. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. Our housekeeper was wonderful and trustworthy, and our room was always spotless, with fresh, clean beds to come back to each day. One of our favorite experiences was enjoying breakfast with such a breathtaking view! The food was absolutely delicious, not just at breakfast but throughout our entire stay. I truly cannot say enough good things about this resort. We have absolutely no complaints! It was such a pleasure spending our vacation in a beautiful town while staying at an equally beautiful resort. Everything about our experience made our trip even more memorable. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Thank you for making our vacation so special! ❤️"

"If you are ok without air-conditioning, you will be beyond pleased. Beautiful surroundings and wonderful staff. Check in was very smooth. Refresh towels and drink was offered and all luggage carried to the room. Restaurant with views of Volcano and lake.........no words"

"Views are beyond beautiful! Property was very clean. Staff, specially the ones in restaurant and lounge area, were extremely friendly and full of suggestions. Breakfast options were VERY limited for someone with egg allergies. Unfortunately there was an issue with plumbing and we didn’t have water the entire last night/morning we were there. Not being able to shower after being in the pool and having to travel all day the next day was quite inconvenient."

"Great place to stay. Long way up the mountain, but once you get there its a great view!! The bar closes at 8:00 pm, so if you are in the middle of a pool game, too bad!! The lights are out and you have to leave!!"

"It is difficult to put my seven days at San Rafael Ecolodge into words, because even now reflecting on this experience brings tears to my eyes. In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, this place truly felt like heaven on earth. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by Giovanni, Luis, and Thor, the sweetest dog imaginable. Their warmth, kindness, and sense of humor immediately made me feel at home. This is not an ordinary hotel stay—it feels more like coming home to family. As a solo female traveler, feeling safe is incredibly important, and I cannot recommend San Rafael Ecolodge highly enough to other women traveling alone. I felt completely safe, cared for, and genuinely welcomed throughout my stay. The room was beautiful, the food delicious, and the property itself peaceful and lovingly maintained. Giovanni arranged unforgettable adventures and shared the incredible wildlife, including a family of sloths living on the property. Luis kept everything immaculate and made sure I always had everything I needed. Costa Rica captured my soul, and San Rafael Ecolodge captured my heart. I arrived as a guest, but I left feeling like family. Without a doubt, this has become my second home. Until we meet again… Pura Vida. ❤️🇨🇷"
