This is a small but lovely resort and feels quite intimate. We stayed in a Waterfront villa for 4 nights, and were upgraded to an Island Villa for our last night. The villas are lovely, are air-conditioned, very comfortable king size beds, and gorgeous full width windows facing the water with balcony/decks. Large bathroom with huge shower, and an outdoor shower as well. The Island Villas also have a freestanding bathtub that provided a lovely soak. The lagoon provides great snorkeling with lots of fish and starfish, and apparently, there's a resident turtle and resident. Kayaks and snorkel gear available. Pool is small but great for relaxing. But the staff is what makes this place exceptional. Warm, friendly, accommodating. Amazing chef who met with me to discuss my dietary requirements, and being gluten free here is not an issue if you give them notice prior to arriving! Lovely spongy bread from the specialty bakery in Apia, but homemade scones, pancakes, and chocolate chip muffins were provided for me, each on different days. The chef even made a "cheat sheet" of gluten-containing products for his staff, and made sure I had gluten free options on the buffet for the FiaFia Night show. We were made to feel welcome, and like family, and we can't wait to go back. Thank you so much, Aga Reef Resort!
Beautiful setting, clean rooms and very comfortabl
Great location, beautiful scenery, staff, very friendly and obliging. rooms spacious and very comfortable. Only let down was the food, one great chef one not so good so a little inconsistent.
The room was lovely and bed was really comfy. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Highlight was seeing turtles everyday from our villa! Great massage at the spa. Thanks for an awesome stay. We will be back.
Amazing don't be fooled thinking the weather is bad by the weather forecasts. We had perfect weather for our whole stay beginning of January! Will definitely be going back!
Beautiful scenery, great food! Staff are wonderful and helpful. Lagoon was pristine, full of life and colour. Would definitely recommend it to friends and family :-)
Under the shadow of the great Upolo mountains this little resort nestles neatly off the Aga Reef. A short walk from local fales, and the amazing Lolamanu Beach - it's the perfect spot to be far enough from the big smoke (Apia), whilst still close to Samoa's many natural wonders.
Great place to stay to wind down. Close to other beaches and places to visit. Very helpful staff and General Manager.
Beautiful part of Samoa.
Daily specials on the menu were welcomed, the main menu could do with a bit of a rotation.
Not really a place with a party atmosphere, so don't expect too much excitement.
Could do with more loungers around the pool.
We will be back.
We stayed 8 nights at the Aga Reef Resort in Lalomanu. The bures on the lagoon are worth the additional cost. Staff are friendly but hover too much over dinner.
Pros are the beauty of the setting, the smiley staff and the Manager, kiwi expat Derek. A la carte restaurant food quality is very good albeit a very limited selection.
Cons are the small portion sizes and expensive menu items, sporadic hot water in the garden view rooms, poor WiFi reception, terrible tv reception. And if you want to snorkel, bring your own fins and masks etc as despite stating these amenities are available, they are not.
Lalomanu is very remote, very windy and cloudy compared with the north side of the island. Beautiful but if you are staying longer than a few days you need to hire a car as it becomes a beautiful jail otherwise.
If you want island cuisine don't stay at a resort, it's mostly European fare approximately 30 to 50 percent more expensive than NZ equivalent. Bring your own snacks and wine with you. Stock up on local beer and water in Apia before you head down the island.
Special thanks to Iesse, Albert and Derek for their hospitality.
While we were at Aga Reef Resort, our daughter left an urgent message with the reception which we were never given. That pretty much summed up the front office delivery; despite the beautiful smiles I'm not sure that anyone was really home.
Probably the best place to stay on the island. Staff at the restaurant was fantastic and really helpful. Team at reception needs some training to make the experience complete. Make sure to check your bill before you leave!
Reception staff were not very helpful and couldn't really provide much advice on things to do locally. Restaurant staff were too in your face. Food is completely over priced and not great. The room was really nice and clean. The resort is let down by the food and the staff, who were lovely but obviously let down by their training.
Aga reef is located in a stunningly beautiful spot. Our chalet had a million dollar view, and we snorkelled from right there. The highlight was spotting a turtle and some seahorses!
I can not fault the staff, they were all exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to be helpful ( rental car with flat battery!!! )
We will definitely be back. The room was great and always crisp and clean. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Didn't find this hotel relaxing. Rooms are modern and nicely fitted out, but it just didn't feel like a relaxing island getaway destination. Resort appears to be partially non-complete. Overall ok but not worth the prices tag from my perspective.
i am very confused as to why this resort has received such a high rating on Trip Advisor. Be careful. This would have to be the most overpriced and disappointing resort i have ever stayed at in any pacific island.
the actual location is quite poor and i suspect an ill-conceived idea to build this property here has desperately forced them into recouping the investment as quickly as possible with inflated prices under the guise that "if it is somewhat on the pricey side... it must be of high quality and therefore good" notion. also, just because a resort is relatively new and doesn't have any wear and tear doesn't necessarily work in it's favour.
don't get me wrong: the overhead aerial photos they use to promote the property are indeed impressive with the beautiful lush mountain backdrop. however, on terra firma things are very different...
the rooms themselves are relatively nice with good, working a/c. however, because of the proximity to the reef, do not expect peaceful tranquility of any kind. the beachfront villas are directly in the constant wind currents and it was noisy and irritating the entire time i stayed there. the constant wind was almost unbearable. when i asked the staff if it was always like this, they said yes, it was. i was also told that all the waterfront villas were the same with regards to the wind when i asked the staff. makes you wonder why they built it like this. also, the strong tidal currents under the bridge add to the constant noise. i had to
Wonderful smaller resort for those wanting a quiet stay. Villas are superb and with patios over the water. The interior of the villas are delightfully decorated and a nice size with lovely large bathroom. Food superb and well priced. Staff friendly. Great for couples wanting something special. The lagoon is great for snorkelling with a lot of fish species including turtles.
Aga Reef Resort is a quiet resort on the South east coast.
There is good snorkelling right at the resort - we saw a turtle right outside our room in the water.
Rooms are clean. Basic but really comfortable.
Staff are friendly without being overbearing.
We stayed in a water side villa. Very quiet and private.
You can't change money at the resort, they didn't have food optionswhen we arrived at 10.30pm, but these are small things in an otherwise very enjoyable stay
The food at the restaurant at the hotel was excellent especially the fish
