"Lovely waterfront setting—but the barking disrupted our stay
We stayed in the motel section, rather than one of the cottages, and overall liked Colonial Gables. Our room had a comfortable king-size bed, a small table with chairs, a coffee maker, and a balcony facing Belfast Bay. The balcony had two tall, rather hard chairs, but it was still a pleasant place to enjoy the view. We especially appreciated being able to walk down to the water.
Unfortunately, the neighboring room had small dogs that provided a very effective—and completely unwanted—overnight alarm service. They barked for several seconds at random intervals throughout the night and into the next morning. They excelled as alarms; the only problem was that we did not want to wake up at 1:00, 3:00, or 5:00 a.m. A pet-friendly property still needs to enforce reasonable noise standards, particularly overnight.
The shower also had an extremely restrictive water-saving device. Route 1 traffic was noticeable, although that is expected given the location. Guests should be careful when pulling onto Route 1, as drivers tend to move quickly.
We also noticed an unusual damp spot where a small amount of water repeatedly seeped up between the floor tiles. It was not a large quantity, but it was annoying and could stain white socks, towels, or other fabric.
Despite these issues, we enjoyed the attractive waterfront setting, the bay view, and the comfortable room. I would consider staying again, but only with greater assurance"
