Great views, convenient for day trip to other locations around Lisbon. A rental car recommended. Beaches were great! The area can be windy. Rooms are stylish and very comfortable. The staff are great and go out of the way to help you enjoy your stay!

Excellent view and location for the beach. The staff were lovely. The only downside compared to other Relais & Chateaux’s we’ve been too, it felt a bit small (the room) and felt like it was missing amenities the others have, like a pool!

Staff greeted us as we parked and immediately took our bags to our rooms as we checked in. Found fresh fruit, port, soda and water waiting in rooms, all standard and included. Staff was knowledgeable and exceedingly friendly. Best stay while in Portugal for 2 weeks. Highly recommend.

Pros: nice location with nice beaches around Cons: not a 5* property but more 3-4*. Old property that makes you feel like you are in the 80’s. Staff were nice overall while doing the basics but service felt more like in a Bed & Breakfast with some sort unionised staff feeling rather than in a 5* hotel with proper attention, service and guest experience. Room smelt humidity the whole time even with the window opened (3 days) and bathroom was really horrible and old and not cleaned thoroughly prior our check in (there was someone else’s hair in the shower). No gym, no pool, no spa. I wonder how hotels get 5* and Relais & Chateaux rating nowadays. Would not recommend overall.

We had a fantastic 9 days here, exploring nearby Caiscais, Lisbon and the surrounding coastline by foot, bike and car while enjoying the superb Hotel Fortaleza. Alexandre, Vitor, Iris and Diogo made us feel so welcome on arrival and were always on hand to address queries. Similarly, the excellent bar and restaurant team (particularly Bruna, Pedro, Mariana, Rui, Daniela and many others, working both in front and behind the scenes) ensured we enjoyed truly excellent breakfasts and a superb selection of snacks, lunches and evening meals. Freshly prepared, nutritious food was abundant alongside a wide variety of breads, scones and pastries baked daily in-house. The view of the Atlantic Ocean and stunning Guincho and Cressima beaches (with all types of surfers) from the breakfast room was uniquely enjoyable as was retiring to the superb foyer day and night to enjoy a drink and beautiful surroundings. Our room was extremely comfortable (the biggest bed I might ever have slept in!) with a full range of complementary coffees, ports, cookies and similar treats. I loved that the hotel, while based on the site of an old fort, combines impressive architecture and furnishings with comfort and elegance - with the maintenance team do a superb job of daily upkeep. One of the best value holidays we've had where we could combine active days with luxurious, relaxing evenings. Thank you so much Petra to you and your superb team - we have glorious memories to look back on and hope to return!
