The Royal Oak

We had an absolutely lovely weekend staying at The Royal Oak. The location was perfect for a relaxing weekend away. The scenery was breathtaking and we had a lovely view from our room. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. This is a traditional pub, very cosy and again nicely decorated but retaining its traditional charm. The landlord and landlady were extremely helpful. Above all, this is dog friendly accommodation, a must for us. We would definitely stay here again.

The shared bathroom for the single rooms does not have a shower head so you would have to take a bath.

Traumatic experience

We arrived at 14:30 hoping for some lunch before check in at 15:00, but the place was closed, we came back at 15:30 to find the place still closed, we rang the bell and called the mobile number on the door but no-one answered. we knew the owner was in as his car with private number plate was parked outside. There was an window open upstairs, so I called up excuse me? A man appeared out of the window and yelled WHAT ! I replied that we were staying and would like to check in, he replied ALRIGHT ALRIGHT I'LL BE DOWN IN A MINUTE!!. He appeared from the back of the building and called us over, my partner asked if he was OK, and he replied YEAH! He showed us up the fire exit and into a room, we asked if the bar was open and he said it would be. He went next door and all we could hear through the wall was him calling me an F**KING this that and the other. At that point we decided to leave. I have contacted my credit card company regarding a refund as no-way could we have stayed the place was not fit for purpose .. The website states it is open fro 12 serving food etc, but this is not the case

Trek Fest 2021

I had a lovely restful and peaceful stay in this cosy and warm hotel, which is just what i needed before and after a trek through the Brecon Beacons. The food in the restaurant is amazing and a there was good selection of dishes to choose from. I only had cereal and fresh coffee for breakfast but the cooked breakfast looked good, too. From arrival to departure i was made to feel very welcome, i would definitely stay here again as there is so much to explore in the area.

2 night stay.

Welcoming landlord, comfortable beds, but food rather basic. Our room needed a few touches to make it more comfortable, i.e. chairs for sitting or for laying clothes on, a bathroom window that opened, coat hooks and more towel rails, and a bath handle, as the bath was difficult to get out of.

A pleasant stay in rural Wales.

The Inn is in a nice location on a quiet country road and surrounded by lovely rural landscape. The beds were comfortable and the bedroom and bathroom were clean. But there was no chair in the bedroom or a chest of drawers for clothes so we had to use our suitcases for storage. The staircarpet down to the dining room was filthy. Breakfasts and evening meals were fairly basic but adequate. The landlord had a pleasant.relaxed manner with some idiosyncrasies, but he could perhaps smarten himself up a bit! The dining room appeared to have been recently refurbished and there was a garden area outside. We imagine that the past 18 months have been particularly difficult for hospitality venues such as this so don't wish to be overcritical. But we imagine that the Hotel Inspector would have a field day!

It was disappointing that check-in wasn’t any earlier than at 18:00 because it meant we had to hang around in cold weather until then. The bedroom wasn’t very warm and there was no heating in the en-suite bathroom.

Great spot and good value

Great value for money. It's an old pub (in an ideal rural setting) so it's far from state of the art. But for my stay with friends it was absolutely fine. Decent pub food, a few pints, a good nights sleep followed by a good standard breakfast. We will probably stay again.

V new owner, so lots of scope for improvement...

We felt the place was seriously understaffed at the busy summer period - and it seemed like the couple running the Royal Oak were on-the-edge/out-of-their depth, but we then learned that they'd been there for only 2 months! So there's every chance that there'll be changes for the better soon. The whole of the accomodation is in need of a refurbish - ( tired old carpets and decor - and a trip hazard that should've been addressed prior to taking bookings) That said, the food was fine and the room pleasant, and parking.good.

Nice little pub

Cosy little pub with simple but very tasty homemade food. As we were leaving early we were kindly provided with breakfast sandwiches to take with us. Lots of nice walks nearby but many stiles not dog friendly. The pub is out of the way down small lanes do leave extra time if you are off somewhere early like we were. Room was spacious, shower was just off the taps and pressure was a bit poor, bed was a bit too soft for my liking. Alternative entrance was in a poor state of repair and could do with some TLC.

I was travelling wales on my motorcycle and found this location to be on my route. Very nice rural spot, great for a stop of, head down ready for the next day. I should have asked for a fan as i got quite warm in the room
