Great downtown Montreal location

We had a pretty good stay here - the location was probably the best thing and the rates were quite reasonable for the location. Bring ear plugs for the night as you will hear people coming and going in the hallways if you are a light sleeper. There isn't parking at this hotel but you can find underground parking about one block south on Drummond. The interior styling might not be to everyone's tastes but it was fun for our short 3 night stay here. It really is a self-serve experience here - we didn't mind that but it might not be for everyone.

only for a night

I stayed one night with my fiancee. They gave us a room in the basement. The room was supposed to be modern but it looked cheap. breakfast was fine, nothing luxurious. I have problems with my reservation and they told me to contact expedia but never explained what teh problem was. Next time I'm in montreal I'd rather go to a hostel instead

Perfectly located in the heart of Montreal

My wife and I had a nice stay in this quaint hotel located on a hill, a short walk from Rue Sherbrooke and Rue Ste-Catherine - two main drives through downtown Montreal. Our suite was rather comfortable. It was everything we needed for an overnight. It classier than I expected, to be honest. We never expected to be so well located and in such a nice place considering how little it cost. The decor was fancier than we are used to as we usually stay in a motel on the south shore and drive into town. It was a nice change to be in the centre of the action and not spending too much! Usually we stay off-island because everything is so expensive in the city. As for the place, there was nobody at reception most of the time, but we didn’t mind. It’s not like we needed anything. My only disappointment was having to park far away and walk back after unloading. It was fine though because we didn’t need the car for the rest of the time we were there. Still, that's not enough to knock off a star because, the fact is, hotels with parking still charge a lot to use their lot. Overall, I would recommend this place as a comfortable, well-decorated, low-cost hotel that provides a nice place to sleep. No major complaints. It’s worth the savings to stay here, I say.

Great price for a great hotel in a great location

I was concerned at first considering the negative reviews we read. Some reviews are awful! But I was seduced by the low price. We were travelling on a tight budget, but wanted to stay downtown. As it turns out, this hotel is excellent! Sure, there's probably better out there, but I'm betting it would cost a lot more. I can't imagine paying so little for anything nearly as nice. I'm starting to think, with so many competing hotels in the area, that this place is getting trashed online by the deep-pocketed competitors that are looking to knock this quaint, little boutique hotel out of business. I loved my stay here. My boyfriend did too. The suite has everything we needed and it was very nicely decorated. I especially liked the light fixture over the bed and the bathroom was very clean (a big plus for me). Everything felt new and freshly painted. The location was unbeatable. We were able to walk down to the metro station, visit the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, tour the Mount Royal Park and even walk down to the old port. It really is an excellent base for exploring the city and I certainly will plan to stay here again given the value. In fact, that exceptional value is why I give it a top rating. In all of my travels, I've never stayed in a better place for such a great price! I should note that the walls are a little thin - that's a bad review I can concur with - but it wasn't a big deal for us. We had a very pleasant stay. The only downside for us was having to leave!

Decent accommodations for an excellent price

It certainly wasn't a dream vacation in a luxury resort, but we had a pleasant stay in this boutique hotel in a downtown Montreal location that, really, was rather nice. We were just a couple steps from Ste. Catherine St., one of the city's most famous commercial strips. It was a pleasant area to walk around in. We enjoyed the many shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants in the area as well as easy access to the underground city - a labyrinth of shopping malls below street level. There was a subway station nearby and plenty to do in the sector. The hotel itself was okay. Good enough for the price, really. That's why I used the word "decent" in my title. The room was clean and the beds cozy. The pillows weren't too fluffy, the bathroom was spacious and the WiFi was strong enough. The room was nicely decorated with an almost retro decor. It is not like your typical cookie-cutter hotel. It was pleasing, I thought. I especially enjoyed the bright purple drapes and the striking contrast in the tile work. The check-in process was pretty normal. The host gave us a key, but didn't dote over us or anything. As we drove away, we decided that we would recommend this place to friends that want a decent place to stay at an affordable rate because certainly these accommodations pass that test! Normally for that price, we expect a total mess, but it was very nice overall.

Old suite hotel in a great location

Room layout was great and the location on Drummond above Sherbrooke is great. The room was hot and only had a fan and small window to ventilate, so had to keep the window open just to breathe, which means no sound proofing from the noise of downtown, and 3:30 am drunkies under the window. No staff onsite after 4pm and all weekend so you're on your own if something goes wrong. Breakfast is awesome, no complaints at all. Biggest annoyance: the hand written envelopes requesting tips for the house keepers, who never changed the sheets (just made the bed), ignored smudges and stains all over the room for the entire stay and left their mops, rags and buckets in plain view overnight.

Lovely location for a great value

I have to give this boutique hotel a five-star rating not because it is exceptional in service, but in value and location. The building is very nice, but the walls are a little thin. The decor is welcoming and, in my opinion, it emanates a minimalist, but chic feel that made me feel like I was staying in a high-class establishment. But, let's face the reality here, I reserved this place, despite the so-so reviews, because I wanted to stay downtown for cheap. The service was minimal, but the location is unbeatable and the value is unsurpassed! I have stayed in many places for this type of low-low price over the years and never have I had such a great location. It beats a cheap motel! The room was cozy and comfortable. It was romantic enough for me and my boyfriend. Sure, we've stayed in better but never for this price! The breakfast was skimpy, so we just snacked in the morning, grabbed a coffee and went out to eat. Look, for what I paid, I really can't complain much. When I reserve a hotel for that price, I expect it to be rundown and on the city's fringe. Instead, it is very comfortable and welcoming and classy. We were able to access the metro station on foot, take a nice long walk in the Mount Royal Park and enjoy the clubbing scene on Crescent. We never had to get back in our car! Everything was right there and that was exceptional. Most downtown hotels are double the price. I highly recommend staying here if you want to save money and be right in downtown Montreal!

Way better experience than I expected

Considering how cheap it was to stay here and some of the less-than-exemplary reviews that I read before booking here, I expected some sort of debacle. In fact, my wife and I had a wonderful experience overall. The check-in was hassle free in my opinion. Sure, we had to find our key waiting for us rather than going through the typical hotel check-in process we are all familiar with. It was different, but I didn't mind at all. The fact is, I wouldn't have paid so little to sleep in downtown Montreal if there were tons of staff on duty. You can't expect five-star services for a three-star price. To cut cost, you cut service. Personally, I prefer to pay less than have staff waiting on me hand and foot. Maybe that's just me, but the money saving is worth it. I recommend you try! The building is quite nice from the outside and fully refurbished on the inside. My experience travelling in Quebec means I am used to finding minimalist-style rental units and that is exactly what we got, but it was comfortable nonetheless. The breakfast was skimpy, but adequate. Everything was comfortable, but it was no five-star. The location, however, is a 5 out of 5! I loved being right in the heart of the downtown action. We were able to fully explore the area on foot and there is a metro station nearby. That was nice. When we went out for drinks on Crescent St. late into the evening, getting back to the hotel was a breeze as it is literally just a few blocks from the city's hottest nightlife.

Did not feel safe

I checked in on Friday, October 13. When I arrived there was no one at the desk, there were numbers to call and a person answered and let me konw the code to the door. My key was sitting on the desk in an envelope with my name on it and room number (not very good security). My room was in the basement, at street level with a door to the outside street. The room itself was very cute and the bed was comfortable. I had issues with the door lock, and could not tell if it was locking from the outside. There is not latch or deadbolt. At 3:30 in the morning there was a man that woke me up wandering the halls going up to all the doors, saying "hello hello", to see if anyone was around. He did this a few times, so I could not sleep and did not know if my door was secure. When I called the front desk and the other numbers, no one answered. I called a few of the numbers all wekeend, and no one answered. The site says 24 hour person at the desk, the whole time I was there, no one was at the desk. I am a female and was travelling alone, and did not feel safe. I left Saturday mornning to go to a different hotel, and I left my key at the desk.I called all weekend agian to see if I could get a refund for my stay but no one answered.Terrible service for this hotel. I did get a hold of someone on Sunday, he told me no one is at the desk on weekends. Why do they not let people know this? He told me to call back this morning to speak to manager, and again, I get no answer.

Misleading

I showed up to the "hotel" and there was no one at the front desk but an envelope with a note saying I needed to go to their "other" hotel which was a kilometre away! I walked up a hill and went only to find another envelope with the room "key" with the security code for the room and the building. How long this information was lying around unattended was anyone's guess so I felt unsafe the whole time as anyone could have gone into my hotel while I was there. I was left no choice but to spend the night as there was no one to speak to. I called Expedia trying to relocate and after 2 hours on hold, they couldn't assist I wouldn't recommend staying at this "hotel" or using Expedia again. Terrible experience. Customer service on both the "hotel" and Expedia were non-existent. It seems that this "hotel" over books their rooms to move to the other location which was farther away from everything Buyer beware!!!

Didn't once see a person at the front desk. The room was dirty, thick layer of dust on the table, bedside table, counter tops and floor. Sheets were not clean (hairs etc.) I stayed 2 nights and my suitcase developed a layer of dust as well. It's dark and dingy. You can hear everything.. there was a couple in the room next door and I had to listen to their conversations, TV watching, sneezing and coughing. The location is great and the price is right. But this hotel certainly isn't worth what I paid for it. Would definitely not reccomend.

Don’t bother.

There is never staff on site. Your key is just left on a front desk. Our patio door was broken. The tv was broken. No one ever came to clean room but someone snuck in to leave an envelope for tips! There is no parking on site & no indication of where any is. And there certainly was no free water or breakfast as mentioned.

Gute Lage - ohne Aussicht

Nice Decor, Incomplete communication, Noise Issues

CHECK-IN: Nobody there much of the day. The guy leaves keys on the counter, but the front door is locked, so you can't get them. They should email you the code to get in, but they don't and then make excuses about it when you give feedback. To get in, you have to call and text 4 different phone numbers until someone answers. And someone may not answer for half an hour. And if you help out another customer with this same issue, they do nothing for you to show thanks. NOISE: Every pin drop can be heard through doors between rooms. So when the next door neighbor leaves the TV on all night or has a dog barking all the time, you're not going to sleep. ROOMS: Nice decor, but could use rugs, a chair of (any) kind and either shelves or drawers. SERVICE: They just changed some of the towels and make the bed and then put an envelope asking for tips. BREAKFAST: It's tiny oranges, a cheap pastry, coffee, and peanut butter. No thanks (especially if you are allergic to peanuts)
