Some beautiful antiques, has charm, unique. Main areas are cluttered, we weren’t sure if we were staying in a museum, art gallery or antiques market. Bathrooms & bedding, whilst clean, need updating.

A delightful quirky hotel next to the promenade that runs down to the heart of Margate and past the Turner Contemporary. Very friendly.

An Edwardian seaside gem

Our stay overall was good. The hotel is a charming step back in time capsule to the Edwardian era. Friendly staff and a fine buffet breakfast. Double bed could have been a bit wider as had difficulty sleeping. Museum of old objects from the hotels previous existence, well worth a visit.

2 night stay in a double room with sea view

Got there a bit early...room was already ready so we went straight in. Definitely got a nice sea view and balcony as paid for! Easy and plentiful parking (free) on the super quiet street outside the hotel. All staff were friendly and helpful. Good breakfast...decent variety and a really nice ballroom type setting. Bedroom was nice and spacious. Bed was comfy and a good size. Refurb would be ideal especially in the bathroom but more than sufficient for a 2 night stay as we had. Really good location...about 20 minute walk along the sea cliff/walk to the main Margate beach and centre. But go the other way for a super pleasant surprise - 5 min walk to some free tennis courts which have a view of the sea as you play!!! Loved that All in all a great stay. Done Margate twice now so probably wouldn't be back at least for a while but if we do then Walpole (with some refurb) would be high on the list to stay at. Thanks!

Very nice holiday for family. Very nice decor, interesting museum, very polite staff, close to the beach, walking distance to Margate beach and Botany Bay. We enjoy our stay at the Walpole Bay Hotel and would high recommend.

Worth a visit!

Wonderful experience mixing old with new. I gad 3rd floor room with balcony and sea view. Fairly small room but view lovely. Shower Pressure could have have been better. The hotel has plenty of history, pictures and notes explaining everything. The dining room is lovely and the cooked breakfast extremely yummy and hot, which was a bonus. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Street parking is free and you need a car as its a short drive to the beach and shops

Amazing hotel

Lovely weekend stay at Walpole Bay Hotel in Margate. Free street parking outside. 20/30 minute walk to main sands/town along promenade. Amazing sea water pool right outside hotel. Comfortable room, with large bathroom, room cleaned every day and toiletries replaced also tea/ coffee & water. Breakfast was buffet and was amazing. All the staff were super friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at The Walpole for 2 nights with our children ages 14 & 10. We absolutely loved the character at the hotel, with so much to take in. Rooms were clean and spacious with an adjoining room for the children. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We would definitely stay again.

A fascinating hotel, giving a completely different experience from the blandness of chain hotels. The staff were all extremely welcoming and the breakfast was very good. The room was light, with a nice view and was spacious and clean, but the furniture, being dark wood and ornate, needed careful dusting and I was sad to see heat rings on one piece which it didn’t appear that anyone had made any attempt to remove. There were also marks on the skirting board and wallpaper which could have been cleaned off. Small reservations aside, however, I would certainly recommend staying here.

Certainly Unique. !! The museum part was creepy and very dusty. Our room in parts was dirty. We are in a pandemic I had to clean the bathroom. The air con. Didnt work. The fan in the wardrobe was thick in dust. Thw biggest grumble we were NOT told the restuarant was not open for an evening meal. There was nowhere in easy reach to go for a meal. The bedding was clean however the bedspread was in place of a duvet. Not very hygienic. We will not be returning.

Querky hotel experience.

Great stay for our daughters wedding. Friendly staff,plenty of choices at breakfast,ample free parking,clean comfortable rooms with an amazing view. Could not fault anything. Beautiful querky decor. Thankyou.

Wonderful Place, Wonderful staff

What a beautiful little gem of a place to stay, about a mile outside of central Margate, perfect location. The room was stunning, with a balcony with a true sea view. Lovely antiques all over the place, plenty to look at and admire. It was like stepping back in time, but in a good way. We loved it. Breakfast was brilliant, was self service, but nothing was too much effort at all. We had to leave super early on our last day, before breakfast had started, but the staff helped us get a bacon sandwich some juice & a strong black coffee before our journey back to London. Nothing was too much effort and I will definitely stay again if I am in the area. Give yourself a treat and go stay too! The Walpole Bay tidal pool is nearby and we went and swam there too.

Great hotel and wonderful, welcoming staff. This was our second stay and we definitely hope to come back soon! Parking was really easy on the street directly outside the hotel. Even better, it was free!!

A real quirky hotel which has kept most of the original features from 1914. It was very clean and so very friendly. Breakfast was delicious. So much to look at on the museum side of it. Very pleasantly surprised. Lovely stay thank you.

Beautiful veranda to have your breakfast and a drink anytime during your day or evening , 2 mins walk to the beach , very unique hotel , you step back in time , staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. 15-20 mins walk into Margate centre .

Friendly staff and good breakfast. Very nice cream and afternoon tea. Overpriced and we paid a premium as there was golf open in the next town. Felt a bit ripped off as we were on holiday not for golf. Rooms are full of mismatched old Wooden furniture. The family rooms single beds are horrible to sleep in as the mattress springs are worn off and you can feel them when lying in bed. House keeping is poor as there cob webs in the fire place and rooms were not very clean. We stayed almost a week and sheets were not changed even once. Shall not be visiting again.
