"We had a fantastic stay at the Hôtel de France in Bergerac and couldn't recommend it more highly. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel completely at home.
Special mention must go to the gentleman who checked us in — he was friendly, helpful and welcoming from the very first moment, nothing was too much trouble, and he gave us brilliant tips on the local area. It's rare to receive such a genuinely warm welcome, and it set the tone for our whole stay.
The rest of the staff were equally lovely — always smiling, always happy to help, and clearly proud of their hotel. The room was comfortable and spotless, and the location is perfect for exploring Bergerac's beautiful old town, just a short stroll away.
We left feeling like we'd been looked after by friends rather than staff. We'll definitely be back — thank you to the whole team, and especially to the gentleman on reception!"
The Originals City, Hotel de Bordeaux, Bergerac center
10/10 Excellent
"This was a great find. The hotel is in a quiet area, not far from the railway station and a short walk from the town centre. The staff were very helpful and friendly and obviously used to dealing with foreign guests. There is a choice of basic or full buffet breakfast for a fee (about €7 for the basic one, about twice that for the full breakfast). This is available from 07:00, which is helpful if you have an early flight. The hotel has a nice pool, with a shady garden and sunloungers as well as outdoor seating, and you can get drinks from the bar to sip while relaxing. The room was airconditioned, which worked very well, and which we very much appreciated in the 37C heat! We felt it was a good price, especially compared with hotels in La Rochelle at the same period.
Bergerac itself is fairly small, but has a good range of restaurants and other amenities.
It is easy to walk around and there is a regular free shuttle bus that goes between the station, the centre and the waterfront, if you don't want to walk. There is a large tourist information centre close to the waterfront, with a wine centre offering free tastings. You can also get a boat trip on the Dordogne in a replica gabarre (flat-bottomed boat). We watched the solar eclipse from the old bridge, which was spectacular, but obviously a one-off event.
Overall, highly recommended. We look forward to going back!"
"Basic but clean room with air con.
On site shaded parking. Friendly staff and good amenities like a pool and lots and lots of games.
Good food and service at the Ludik restaurant.
Out of town so not ideal location."
"A beautiful hotel situated in an old windmill, right next to the river, with amazing views. The rooms are lovely, clean and well equipped and the shower is great. All of the staff were extremely friendly, polite and helpful. Our evening meal was wonderful, as was breakfast, with a wide and varied range of excellent, fresh products.
You can wander downstairs to sit by the river, passing through a room containing the workings of the old windmill, a bit like a museum, which is really interesting.
There is a huge free car park, including spaces with electric charging points."
"Excellent value for money , well equipped apartment, free parking and balcony with view over the pool, Sarah the duty manager was extremely helpful and even arranged an extra fan due to the heat and humidity."
"Breakfast included bacon and egg. Boulangerie opposite. Near industrial zones with a variety of places to eat. Bowling opposite. Near airport which is why we chose it."
