Wonderful place, but DON’T book through Hotels.com

This B&B is adorable and the staff there couldn’t be friendlier. A good breakfast, comfortable bed, and scenic location with Galway and the Aran Islands ferry each within half an hour. But don’t book through Hotels.com, book directly with the venue. We booked on Hotels for 2 nights, arrived for check-in and were told they had no such booking. Apparently they’ve been telling Hotels.com, Expedia, Bookings.com etc. For a while to remove them from their websites, yet people keep showing up with third-party bookings and having to be turned away. Thankfully, the woman who runs the place was extraordinarily generous and understanding and had one room open for us to use that night, but we had to scramble to find an AirB&B for our second night. No money lost because the card never got charged for the Hotels.com booking, but Hotels.com was not very accommodating nonetheless. I probably should’ve clarified the booking directly with the venue in advance, but Hotels often touts that there’s no need to do so because they have verified your reservation for you when you book through them. That was not the case here.

Enjoyable Stay

Very gracious and friendly owner. Excellent breakfasts, she even made a special breakfast for my son. Peaceful place and surroundings. The villeage has excellent eateries and markets.q

What a gem!

I had the best sleep there I had in a long while! The room was large, the bed very comfortable along with the pillows. The shower was great too! And of course, the service given by the team was so amazing! The three of them were very friendly and efficient too! Breakfast was also great! I'll certainly and happily go back!

This is for Carrown Tober House, not Crossriver B&B. Hotels.com has these two mixed up (which cost me and my two parents a good four hours cutting our visit to Galway short and knocking on doors in Oughterard, trying to find if we had a place to stay. All in all: Oughterad is a great, friendly place, in general. After locals were opening their doors to complete strangers (us!) to help us find where to stay, we ended up with the place we had booked: Carrown Tober House. The guys there are heartwarming. Helpful, polite and authentic. The room was clean and warm and the breakfast was impressively plentiful and delicious. I loved the laid-back feeling the town has to offer. I am looking forward to visiting this place again!

Amazing place for holidays!

Amazing B&B! Gerry and Mary are great people and helped us to get the most beautiful places around Connemara! The room is really big and everything was sparking clean. The breakfast is also amazing, this place is one of the best I’ve ever been!

Perfect family run business

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and provided with cups of tea. Bedroom was spacious and bathroom lovely. Breakfast was exceptional with full Irish cooked as ordered. Easy walk into Oughterard. Definitely will stay again.

Great B&B for exploring Galway and the West Coast

Stayed here for 4 nights and had a great stay. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The breakfast was super; lots of variety including veggie options. The smoked salmon and scrambled egg option was particularly great. The hosts were fantastic; we were seen by Owen and Mary, and the hospitality was top notch. The B&B is a short walk to Oughterard, so a fair few options for dinner in the evening without having to drive in (great for that sneaky pint of Galway Hooker Stout!). It's also great for using as a base for exploring Galway, the Connemara Loop and the Cliffs of Moher. For any dog lovers, there are a couple of adorable labradors. The black one is particularly playful! Don't worry if you are not a dog fan, as they don't enter the guest areas. Definitely recommend a stay if you are in the area.

We arrived late and were quickly shown our room. The next morning we had a great Irish breakfast in a beautiful room with lots of light and a great view of the lush property. The owner fielded our questions with friendliness and interest. In particular, he gave us wonderful suggestions for a one day drive around Connemara. I particularly like it location 30 minutes outside of buy Galway which gave us a headstart on our plan to drive around Connemara. (The town name is pronounced auk-te-rard.

My family and I stayed at this B&B for 3 nights and we cannot say enough about our positive experience! We had originally only booked for 2 nights and when we changed our itinerary, they went above and beyond to make sure we at least got one extra night with them, then helped us find accommodations for our last night in Ireland. The accommodations were amazing, beautiful grounds and amazing food! The kindness and compassion Mary, Owen and Gerry showed us was beyond words. I would highly recommend this beautiful B&B to anyone who is going to be visiting Galway or the Connemera area!!!!
