Oyamazumi Shrine

Oyamazumi Shrine is located on Omishima, one of the islands   in the Seto Inland Sea between Hiroshima prefecture and Ehime Prefecture.

Oyamazumi Shrine is located on Omishima, one of the islands   in the Seto Inland Sea between Hiroshima prefecture and Ehime Prefecture.

The main building for prayer at Oyamazumi Shrine.

This building was originally built in 1427, but underwent major renovation in 1602. It is made of uncoated wood and has a cyprus bark roof.

How to pray: Throw money in offering box, ring bell to wake god, bow twice, clap twice, pray...and bow once more at the very end.
This large camphor tree is located inside the grounds of Oyamazumi Shrine.

It's said to be over 2,600 years old and has survived various natural effects such as fires, floods and even several lightning bolts. For that reason, many believe that this tree will bring you luck for a long life.

Location: On Omishima island in the Seto Inland Sea between Hiroshima prefecture and Ehime Prefecture. Accessible by car or local bus from Imabari city (or the other Hiroshima side) on the Shimanami Kaido Highway.
